Duties
As a Supervisory Legal Assistant (OA), you will perform the following duties: Supervise the daily activity of a team of legal assistants and other clerical support staff; Perform basic research by reviewing and analyzing case materials, collecting related files for cases cited; Perform a variety of support functions related to tracking and managing Immigration Court dockets, preparing motions and appeals; Assist attorneys in preparing correspondence and basic motions; Research and gather data from a variety of databases to provide the most current information related to Immigration Cases.
Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below. Specialized Experience: GS-09: Applicant must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-08 level in the Federal service that included experience such as: Tracking and managing immigration court dockets. Drafting non-legal memoranda such as motions and appeals. Gathering and/or researching data from a variety of databases to review or analyze the related cases and files. Collecting records and/or legal documents for immigration court proceedings. Typing Requirement: In addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements, applicants for this position must show possession of the ability to type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample, with three or fewer errors. You may self-certify your proficiency in the Occupational Questionnaire. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Promotion Potential: This position is at the full performance level. Supervisory Probationary Period: This is a supervisory position. Under provisions of the Civil Service Reform Act, first time supervisors and/or managers will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
