About the Department
The City of Auburn Parks, Arts, & Recreation Department is seeking a talented Special Events Coordinator. This position performs professional work involving developing, implementing, and coordinating various special events.
Note: This position will be supervising the Farmers Market, thus this position will be required to work on Sundays, June to mid-September.

OUR PARKS DEPARTMENT
Auburn's Recreation Division provides opportunities for the public to participate in diverse recreational programs and activities designed to meet the needs of the community. These programs include preschool, youth, teen, and adult leisure programs; youth, teen, and adult athletics; fitness and wellness programs; programs designed to provide social and recreational opportunities to senior citizens and those with special needs, and a host of special events suitable for the entire family and community at large. OUR CITY
The City of Auburn is home to over 90,000 residents and encompasses over 29.8 square miles of land, two rivers, and is part of two counties - King and Pierce. The City operates as a Strong-Mayor form of Mayor-Council government, with a City Council of seven at-large members.
Position Duties
Schedules, organizes, facilitates, coordinates, and evaluates participants, vendors, contractors, volunteers, and other related participation in a variety of special events including, but not limited to, initial contact, follow-up, and event day requirements and support; recruits new sponsors and vendors, as necessary. Works closely with the other Parks staff in the planning and oversight of special programs, program development, administrative support, day-of-event duties, and supervision of volunteers, facilities, and/or programs. Coordinates, organizes, and tracks different event budgets, vendor payments, contractors, supplies, volunteers, and non-benefitted staff related to events. - Provides administrative and technical support to the Events, Projects, and Marketing Manager for marketing publications, grant applications, and other special programs, as assigned.
- Works courteously and effectively with public officials, citizens, contractors, vendors, developers, supervisors, and other employees, both in person and over the telephone, assisting them with a wide variety of information pertaining to City and department
Minimum Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Bachelor's Degree in recreation, Public Relations or closely related field
- Two years of successful professional work experience in a related
a combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully complete the essential elements of the job listed above.
Licenses/Certification Required
Valid state driver’s license, without impending loss at time of appointment.
