The IT Specialist position administers, maintains, and troubleshoots endpoints and peripherals for the entire City, but focusing on Public Safety. This is accomplished by providing network and desktop computer support, providing superior customer service to City staff, and performing intermediate level systems administration. 


Supervision is provided by the Operations Director

Position Duties

  • Communicates with internal staff to provide competent, reliable, and effective technical support in order to provide superior customer service in a timely manner. 

  • Utilizes a ticketing system to document support tickets. 

  • Creates and updates articles on the local intranet knowledge base. 

  • Installs operating systems and applications onto desktop computers for new or current employees, utilizing SCCM or other imaging methods. 

  • Assists with the maintenance of all City information systems, software, hardware, and peripherals. 

  • Focus on the maintenance of Public Safety specific software and hardware, including mobile video security, alarm monitoring, 911 recording, station alerting, CAD, Mobile Data Computers, Absolute, and others. 

  • Administers and maintains IP phones and voicemail for end users utilizing Cisco Call Manager and Unity Connection. 

  • Maintains inventory of hardware, identifying when replacements are due. 

  • Performs basic system administration of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, Hyper-V, Print Server, Windows Server Update Services, SAN, SQL, and IIS. 

  • Works with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve software and hardware issues under a support contract, including but not limited to Laserfiche. Incode, and Dell.

  • Administers and maintains the Google Workspace environment through the Google Admin Console. 

  • Administers and maintains endpoint cybersecurity solutions. 

  • Responsible for maintaining the City’s enterprise backup system. 

  • Maintains up to date job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, including annual conferences, online or in-person classroom training, and educational media

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Two year or vocational degree (preferred) or three years job-related experience. Valid Texas Driver’s License and personal vehicle. This position requires the completion of NIMS training courses 100 and 700 upon hiring or within six months of employment/transfer/promotion.
