Job Summary:
This entry-level role supports the Generative AI for Forms SBIR project. You’ll join a high-performance, cross-functional team researching novel applications of generative AI for Navy maintenance forms. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to gain experience working at the intersection of AI/ML, full-stack software development, and government systems modernization.
You will help develop and test AI-enhanced workflows, integrate backend services, and build tools that support the Navy’s digital transformation goals. The position focuses on practical implementation and experimentation, rather than publishing research, and offers strong mentorship and career growth opportunities.
As with any position, additional expectations exist. These include, but are not limited to, adhering to normal working hours, meeting deadlines, following company policies, communicating regularly with assigned supervisors, and completing other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Assist in the development and testing of AI-enhanced backend services, REST APIs, and web interfaces
Help build tools for collecting, cleaning, and managing structured and unstructured Navy maintenance data
Support the integration of mobile and edge systems with backend services (e.g., narrative entry apps, RPA submission workflows)
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing suites, and deployment workflows in an Agile environment
Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to prototype new capabilities such as speech-to-text, field apportionment, and data quality scoring
Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and customer demos
Collaborate with full-stack and mobile developers to integrate AI capabilities into deployed systems
Contribute to Agile sprints, including design reviews, research discussions, and deliverables tracking
Basic Qualifications:
- Active DoD SECRET Security Clearance Required
- US Citizenship Required
- If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
Demonstrated proficiency in Python, Java, or C# through coursework, projects, or internships

Demonstrated ability to use SQL to query and update relational databases.
Demonstrated basic understanding of REST APIs and version control (Git)
Demonstrated familiarity with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD concepts
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with CI tools such as GitHub Actions or CircleCI from academic or internship work
Coursework or project experience in artificial intelligence, data mining, or natural language processing
Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS EC2) or containerization tools (Docker)
Exposure to Unity or Godot (as used in research or academic work)
Demonstrated familiarity with government systems, edge computing, or human-in-the-loop AI
Comfortable participating in technical discussions and collaborating with senior developers and researchers
