Job Summary
The OSP Engineer is responsible for designing and developing Outside Plant (OSP) fiber networks, including GPON systems. This role involves creating construction drawings, preparing permit documentation, and managing projects through to completion.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Develop Red, Green, and Brown drawings for DOT and County Road Projects.
Respond within 48 hours to all facility requests pertaining to relocation projects.
Design and develop OSP construction drawings and permit documentation.
Manage projects from initiation through completion, including scheduling and budgeting.
Apply company standards and policies for aerial, buried, and underground designs.
Maintain and update OSP record systems (SpatialNet and Offline) to ensure accurate as-built documentation.
Oversee project plans, approve designs, specifications, and manage schedule changes.
Conduct field site visits and meetings with contractors, customers, and local agencies.
Implement procedures and systems to coordinate financial and budget activities for operational efficiency.
Support cross-functional projects and assist other departments and team members as directed.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to quickly learn proprietary and cloud-based software.

- Ability to read and interpret maps, conduit records, and layout drawings.
- Ability to read and understand road project designs.
- Proficiency in Google Earth and AutoCAD; familiarity with SpatialNet preferred.
- Solid understanding of OSP construction techniques.
- Expertise in aerial and underground plant design.
- Advanced knowledge of copper, fiber, and substructure design.
- Familiarity with industry standards, local telecom practices, and applicable regulations.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office and field work; schedule may vary based on business needs.
- Indoor office environment with prolonged sitting.
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather).
- Safe operation of company vehicles in diverse traffic and weather conditions, including nighttime driving.
- Extensive walking on various terrains and working around construction equipment.
- Flexibility to work holidays, weekends, and overnight shifts as needed for field visits.
Other Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in OSP engineering or construction.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with a telecommunications company.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; SpatialNet experience preferred.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
