Job description:

As a Graduate Health and Safety Advisor, you will work alongside experienced safety professionals in a supportive and learning-focused environment. This role provides an exceptional opportunity to develop your technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional confidence while contributing to the health, safety, and wellbeing of our people.

Operating in a care and maintenance mining environment, you will gain hands-on experience in hazard identification, risk management, incident investigation, compliance monitoring, and wellbeing initiatives. You will play an important role in maintaining a safe workplace, ensuring our operations meet legislative requirements, and fostering a strong safety culture.

Based in the picturesque coastal town of Hopetoun, Western Australia, this is a residential role offering relocation support and company housing. This position will equip you with a solid foundation for a successful career in Health and Safety within the resources sector, while making a meaningful contribution to our site’s safety performance and continuous improvement goals.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the Care and Maintenance Superintendent, Support Services and the corporate investigations team in incident notification, reporting, and follow-up actions.

  • Coordinate health and wellbeing initiatives across the site, tailored to the care and maintenance operating context.

  • Manage the Hazard/Near Miss Reporting process in conjunction with Department Leaders, ensuring that key learnings are captured, shared, and applied.

  • Maintain and update safety systems (e.g., Appian, Onsite, SharePoint) on behalf of the Care and Maintenance Superintendent, Support Services 

  • Assist with the close-out of WHS issues and completion of corrective actions in a timely and effective manner.

  • Collect, analyse, and report safety performance data to inform targeted improvement strategies.

  • Facilitate regular reviews of safety documentation to ensure compliance, relevance, and usability.

  • Provide advice and support to leaders and employees regarding communication with regulators, ensuring accuracy and consistency.

  • Prepare safety performance reports, including lead and lag indicators, for leadership review.

  • Contribute to key safety projects and initiatives as directed by the Care and Maintenance Superintendent, Support Services  Provide general assistance to the safety team during periods of peak workload.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, Environment, Psychology, Business, or a related discipline.

  • Knowledge of incident investigation and reporting processes, with an understanding of human factors in safety.

  • Awareness of WHS legislation, codes of practice, and standards, including injury management, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work processes.

  • Valid driver’s license Class C1.

  • Ability to interpret and analyse safety data and statistics.

  • Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships.
