Job Title: Process Engineering Intern
Reports To: Process Engineering Department Manager
Location: Cincinnati
Status: Full-Time Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY: The Process Engineering Intern is expected to use the academic knowledge gained to support engineers in meeting a client's needs with respect to system design and process operations. This would include the areas of design innovation, system performance improvement, quality and reliability improvements, and cost reduction opportunities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The responsibilities listed are fundamental to the position and must be performed successfully under the guidance, instruction, and mentorship of senior engineers and the department manager. Other responsibilities may be assigned.
- Develop process flow diagrams (PFD’s).
- Generate Heat & Material Balances for process either by hand or using simulation software such as Aspen Tech.
- Assist in the development of piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID’s) for the process.
- Perform process calculations including line sizing, pump hydraulics, safety relieving, etc.
- Creating process lists, including equipment lists, utility matrices, specialty parts lists, valve lists.
- Aid in conveying process data needed for the sizing of instruments to be used in the process.
- Generate equipment specifications for vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, distillation columns, etc. and work with equipment vendors to obtain the required equipment needed for a project.
- Generate bid tabulations of equipment from vendor quotations.
- Provide input as needed to other disciplines during project execution.
- Work with lead engineers to expand knowledge base of the wider duties and methods of process engineering in capital projects.
- Work with senior engineers to develop calculation and sizing tools relevant to the process engineer field
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
- Enrollment in a 4-year BSChE degreed program
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience in previous co-op or internship related to process design on specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, and/or bio-fuels projects is a plus.
- Previous co-op or internship that includes Site Experience is a plus
- Working knowledge of basic software tools is a plus
Working Hours/Environment
- Hours average 40 per week.
- Work typically performed in an indoor office setting/client site.
Travel: Minimal
Physical Demands:
- Frequently required to sit at a desk/workstation for long period of time.
- Ability to work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
- Light Lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to speak to and hear employees/clients via online meeting software or in person.
- Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move around an office environment.
- Ability to analyze unique situations and develop appropriate response.
