Host


Overview: The Host is the main point of contact when members and guests come to the Club. The Host greets members and guests in a personable, friendly, and inviting manner, and guides them to appropriate areas. The Host greets all incoming parties, records date, time and special requests and walks each party to a designated table. The Host also helps provide a fine dining environment by performing other assigned tasks requiring attention to detail.


Availability:

  • Must be able to work weekday morning and have weekend flexibility

Duties/Responsibilities:


Greeting and Welcoming Guests:

  • First Point of Contact: As guests arrive, the host greets them warmly, often with a smile and a friendly demeanor, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Making Guests Feel Comfortable: Offering hospitality and ensuring that guests feel comfortable and attended to as soon as they arrive.

Managing Reservations and Seating:

  • Seating Guests: The host manages the seating process, ensuring that guests are seated in a timely manner, according to availability, or reservations.
  • Reservation Management: In establishments that require reservations (such as restaurants or event venues), the host may take reservations, manage guest lists, and assign tables.
  • Handling Waitlists: If there is no immediate seating available, the host may manage a waitlist and update guests on expected wait times.

Customer Interaction:

  • Answering Questions: The host may answer questions about the menu, venue, or event schedule and provide information on services available.
  • Assisting with Requests: The host may handle special requests, such as accommodating allergies, or guests' preferences regarding seating arrangements.
  • Resolving Issues: If a guest has a concern or complaint, the host listens carefully and works to resolve it, possibly involving management if necessary.

Coordinating with Staff:

  • Communication with the Team: The host works closely with servers, managers, and other staff to ensure smooth operations. For example, they may inform servers when guests are seated or if there are special requests.
  • Managing Flow of Guests: The host helps maintain the flow of guests, ensuring there is no bottleneck at the entry or dining areas, especially during busy hours.

Maintaining the Atmosphere:

  • Ensuring Cleanliness: The host may ensure that the entrance, reception, or lobby area is tidy and inviting for guests.
  • Creating a Positive Ambiance: The host often plays a role in setting the tone for the guest experience, being friendly and professional, and representing the business or venue positively.

Assisting with Departures:

  • Saying Goodbye: The host may thank guests for their visit as they leave and ask for feedback to ensure the experience was positive.
  • Managing Payments (sometimes): In some cases, hosts may assist with payment or direct guests to the cashier.

Essential Skills for a Host:

  • Communication Skills: Clear and friendly communication is crucial for dealing with guests and coordinating with the team.
  • Organizational Skills: Hosts need to manage reservations, seating arrangements, and guest flow in an efficient manner.
  • Multitasking: The ability to handle multiple tasks at once (e.g., greeting new guests while managing the seating of others) is important, especially during busy times.
  • Customer Service: A great host is attentive, patient, and focused on creating a welcoming experience for all guests.
  • Problem-Solving: A host may encounter situations like overbookings, guest complaints, or special requests, requiring quick thinking and a calm demeanor.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to provide excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.

• Must have strong client facing and communication skills.

• Must be able to pay high attention to detail.

• Must be able to perform basic computer skills.

• Must have a positive attitude and a willingness to work in a team environment.

• Must be able to pour beverages such as water and wine.

• Occasional bending.

· Prolonged periods of standing working on a computer and talking on the telephone.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.


Language:

• Required to speak, read, write English, and do basic mathematics. Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus.

Position Classification and Expected Hours of Work
The assigned hours to this position vary each week according to event schedules, but include working on holidays and weekends.
