About the Department
The Firefighter Paramedic will perform specialized firefighter and Paramedic duties including fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency lifesaving, and rescue.
Position Duties
- Provide Basic and Advanced Life Support care and treatment.
- Check, maintain, and repair equipment and personal fire suppression gear; ensure cleanliness of fire station, and ensure proper storage of all related equipment.
- Perform full range of fire suppression activities; use appropriate and safe procedures.
- Perform various rescue and public assistance activities, which may include pest removal, assist with accidental lockouts, and welfare checks.
- Provide various departmental support activities, which may include conduct public education courses, document patient encounters, and prepare incident reports.
- Participate in continuous training and physical fitness programs.
- Participate in the routine cleaning and maintenance of fire station facilities and equipment.
- Attend training and continuing education to meet ongoing certification requirements.Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Medical terminology and communication;
- Tribal policies and procedures;
- Fire Department rules and regulations;
- Fire Department standard operating procedures;
- Emergency Medical Treatment Standards and protocols;
- National Fire Protection Association (N.F.P.A.) Standards;
- International Fire Service Training Association (I.F.S.T.A.) Standards;
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities:
- Apply advanced life support care techniques and practices;
- Apply fire suppression practices and principles;
- Effectively rendering first aid and basic emergency medical care;
- Effectively perform work of a hazardous nature under adverse conditions including but not limited to, confined areas, high places, during civil unrest, etc.;
- Follow instructions and work as a team member in a highly structured working environment;
- Maintain physical fitness, agility and mental alertness during extended periods of work;
- Follow oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures;
- Prepare written documents on various Fire Department programs and projects as requested.
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
Other Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Special Requirements:
- Must be 18 years old;
- Must be a U.S. Citizen;
- Firefighter I and II Certifications;
- CPR and First Aid Certifications;
- ACLS Certification;
- Pediatric Advanced Life Saving Certification;
- Arizona EMT-P Certification;
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
- May be required to obtain an AZ State Driver/Operator Certification, and other various certifications; depending on assignment;
- Must passed Physical Fitness test annually;
- This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends. This position is a 24-hour shift assignment, with the average workweek at 57.50 hours;
- Must have a FBI, BIA, and Tribal Court Clearance, which includes a Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card. Failure to maintain a current clearance from the aforementioned agencies will result in termination.
