The Developer I is a member of the Academic and Enterprise Services team, reporting to the Assistant Director of Client and Application Support Services. This entry-level role supports both the operational and project-based needs of the University’s academic enterprise systems. The position splits time between resolving Tier 1 and Tier 2 support tickets and contributing to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of applications and integrations within Ellucian Banner and related systems.
The Developer I collaborates with senior developers, business analysts, and functional staff to troubleshoot issues, implement technical solutions, and support daily system operations. This position builds foundational skills in enterprise application support and software development, preparing the employee for advancement to Developer II and III roles.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical aptitude with enterprise applications and integrations, strong problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills, effective communication and collaboration abilities, attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn and grow in a complex IT environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide application support and incident response
- Respond to and resolve Tier 1 and Tier 2 incidents and service requests
- Troubleshoot data flow, access, and performance issues across systems including Banner
- Monitor logs and alerts; take corrective action or escalate
- Support patching and system maintenance activities
- Maintain documentation for recurring issues and resolution
- Support software development and system enhancements
- Assist in development, testing, and maintenance of code, APIs, and integrations
- Contribute to new feature implementation and enhancements
- Follow standards for development, version control, and deployment
- Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement
- Contribute to business process improvement
- Collaborate with business analysts and functional partners to assess processes
- Document workflows and suggest improvements or automation opportunities
- Provide project coordination and documentation
- Support project planning by preparing technical specs and task estimates
- Document configuration decisions and end-user guides
- Other Duties as Assigned
Position Duties
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience in application support, software development, or systems integration
- Basic programming experience working with JavaScript and PL/SQL
- Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and API concepts
- Troubleshooting and end-user support experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience supporting or developing within Ellucian Banner
- Working knowledge of the Ethos Platform and Banner Business APIs
- Understanding of Argos, DegreeWorks, BEP, or OnBase
- Experience supporting enterprise systems
- Higher education work experience
