The Student Success Coach is responsible for assisting with and implementing retention and completion activities that support student success initiatives at the college. The coach will help students develop skills, behaviors, and habits that contribute to success in college, employment, and leadership. This position provides direct academic support, life skills coaching, and case management to students, with the primary goal of improving retention and completion outcomes.
The coach will work collaboratively with student specialists, admissions, academic advisors, faculty, and other campus partners to support student registration and success across all academic programs and pathways.
This position is under the general supervision of the Associate Dean, School of Manufacturing Engineering and Information Technology (MEIT).Position Duties
Holistic Student Coaching and Support
- Provide proactive, individualized academic coaching to assigned students through scheduled and drop-in appointments.
- Complete initial intake assessments and collaboratively develop personalized success plans aligned with each student’s academic and career goals.
- Monitor student progress regularly and conduct timely outreach to address academic challenges, personal barriers, or disengagement.
- Offer guidance in developing effective academic skills including time management, study strategies, self-advocacy, and goal setting.
- Refer students to appropriate campus and community resources such as advising, tutoring, financial aid, counseling, disability support, and career services.
Program Engagement and Retention Initiatives
Support students in navigating the college environment, fostering a sense of belonging and engagement within their academic program.
Plan and implement workshops, check-ins, events, and other activities designed to enhance retention, persistence, and completion.
Promote program visibility through outreach, recruitment, and onboarding of new participants.
Encourage student participation in leadership development, academic enrichment, and support services related to their field of study.
Monitoring, Intervention, and Case Management
Maintain regular contact with assigned students to assess progress, address concerns, and provide just-in-time interventions.
Collaborate with faculty, academic advisors, and student services to share relevant information and support early-alert strategies.
Track and document student interactions, challenges, and outcomes in accordance with program expectations and privacy standards.
Collaboration and Communication
Build strong relationships with faculty and staff across departments to ensure students receive comprehensive and coordinated support.
Partner with program coordinators, department leads, and student support teams to align efforts and share best practices.
Participate in training, team meetings, and professional development to stay informed on student success strategies and institutional resources.
Program Evaluation and Accountability
Adhere to study protocols as part of the SCC4 national program evaluation, including timely and accurate data collection.
Maintain student records and contribute to progress reports, evaluations, and data submissions for grant compliance and continuous improvement.
Support the development of success metrics and contribute to the assessment of program impact on student outcomes.
Additional Responsibilities
Regularly review and optimize processes to eliminate redundancy and enhance overall efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:
5 years professional experience in Advanced Manufacturing or a related field; a combination of industry certifications, technical training, and hands-on experience
Three years of experience supporting diverse learners across a wide range of ages, life experiences, and academic levels.
Two (2) years demonstrated successful coaching, advising, case management or other supportive experience.
Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- District-wide travel to serve students and partner with other Gateway staff and faculty
Demonstrated team-oriented thinking as well as the ability to work independently.
Ability to prioritize assigned work responsibilities and multi-task in a face-paced environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to accommodate day, evening, and online students. Regular schedules may vary based on office and student need and will occasionally include Saturday hours.
Ability to use technology: Online tools such as email, on-line chat, learning management systems, customer relationship systems, Zoom/Google Meet/Teams and real-time online coaching.
Other Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Skilled in workshop facilitation and presentations and ability to do classroom and professional development trainings
Working experience with computer software systems and virtual platforms
Effective problem-solving skills
Effective verbal, written communication, and computer skills

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
