Chemical Engineering Co-Op Student na Southern Ionics

JOB SUMMARY:

The Engineer Co-Op position at Southern Ionics is designed to give bachelor’s degree seeking undergraduate students an opportunity to gain real world experience in areas such as process engineering, product development, research, project engineering, and process design. Working closely with the corporate engineering team, the work environment fosters training and development to ensure that the Co-Op gains valuable on-the-job knowledge and experience. Co-Ops will also learn about SII standards for Safety, Quality and Environmental compliance. The job will include some travel (up to 30%) with expenses covered by the company. 

Currently hiring for Project Engineering Co-Ops:

A) Summer 2026 (alternating terms: Summer 2026, Spring 2027, Fall 2027)

B) Fall 2026 (alternating terms: Fall 2026, Summer 2027, Spring 2028)

JOB TASKS:

Specific tasks that a Co-Op will perform vary based on semester and ongoing business objectives. Even within a given semester, the day-to-day expectations may change dramatically. Examples of tasks completed by previous Co-Ops include:

1. Design, assembly, testing and repair of pump skids for product delivery at customer locations.
2. Engineering, design, and assembly of bench scale, pilot scale, and full-scale testing of equipment and processes.
3. Data gathering, reporting and presentation of results.
4. Generation of process-flow diagrams, parts lists, and estimates.
5. Tabulation and reporting of operational efficiencies.
6. Gathering and analyzing statistical data of existing processes.
7. Collecting, analyzing, and reporting results on various process streams for environmental permit compliance
8. Training and then performing selected jobs within the plant (including forklift and heavy equipment operation)
9. Implementing plant improvements such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) revisions, maintenance procedures, equipment change outs, etc.
10. Mentorship of junior Co-Ops

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Perform physical activities required when working around or on industrial equipment.
2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
3. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (respirator, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots, and hearing protection.
4. Lifting could include objects up to 25 pounds.

*Salary will be increased by $0.50 each semester after first semester
