Position: Sustaining Mechanical Engineering Intern
Summary
Summer/School Year Engineering Intern will work onsite in Plano, TX during the school year for up to 25 hours per week. As a Sustaining Mechanical Engineering intern, you will contribute to R&D Sustaining deliverables, assist with sustaining Engineering product development tasks, optimize in-house development testing and processes, and engage in design control activities. The intern will meet regularly with their coach to define daily tasks and reporting. This position will give you the opportunity to interface closely with the Inogen cross-functional team to investigate, create and release robust designs to solve real-world problems and potential issues.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical components and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Conduct simulations and analyses to evaluate design performance and reliability.
- Support prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs in lab or field settings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine designs based on test results and project requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and presentations.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas to improve product performance.
- Assist in maintaining and calibrating lab equipment and tools.
- Support CAPA and root cause analysis investigations.
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB).
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and prototyping techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work on multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
- Previous internship or project experience in mechanical design or testing is a plus.
