The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Municipal Court Clerk to support and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Municipal Courts Division. Are you data-driven? The Municipal Court Clerk earns a competitive salary $19.22-$20.81/per hour, based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN LIFE AS A MUNICIPAL COURT CLERK

Job Summary:

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform routine clerical and administrative functions related to the procedures, laws, and record-keeping tasks required of a Municipal Court of Record.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with administrative duties for the court, as assigned, which include processing paperwork; scanning and printing documents; data entry, retrieving accident and incident reports; and updating and maintaining various schedules and listings.
  • Provides customer service to citizens, defendants, parents of defendants, and other parties by phone and in person, i.e. answers questions, takes payments, sets court dates, enters information in computer, prepares payment plans, receives required and/or court ordered documents such a copy of insurance, motor vehicle registration receipt, driving record, etc.
  • Prepares cases for court, processes judgments and dispositions, and enters case information into the court software system.
  • Prepares and maintains court files, both manual and computerized, including data entry and digital imaging.
  • Reviews court files for compliance of Judge's orders and prepares arrest warrants for issuance in cases of noncompliance.
  • Runs routine reports from court software system.
  • Generates correspondence and documentation to defendants and attorneys related to court case files such as court summonses, letters, promises to appear, document receipts, etc.
  • Receives payments for Municipal Court fines and fees as well as cash bond payments in the form of cash, check, money order, and credit card.
  • Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers and others.

Additional Duties:

  • Explains procedures or forms to parties involved in a case.
  • Prepares docket or calendar of cases to be called.
  • Processes and distributes jury summonses.
  • Secures information for judges; contacts witnesses, attorneys, and litigants to obtain information for court; and instructs parties when to appear in court.
  • Examines legal documents submitted to court for adherence to law or court procedures; prepares case folders and posts, files, or routes documents.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent
  • Requires one year of general clerical and detail related work or closely related experience.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Texas Municipal Court Clerk Certification
  • Fingerprint for CJIS/TLETS
