Dean - San Jac Online Instructional Services - South Campus

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides strategic and administrative leadership, supervision, and support to the campus in guiding the students toward their educational and career goals; supervises tracking and analyzing of student performance data; reviews and confirms that faculty credentials meet SACSCOC, THECB, and/or outside agency criteria; provides general oversight of the virtual learning environment, including the accessibility, functionality, and security of online classrooms, platforms, and digital tools used by the campus;  administers and supervises the operation of campus grants; and provides leadership in curriculum planning and development, curriculum revision, instruction, fiscal matters, and program evaluation.     

   
Essential Job Functions:               
  1. Responsible for strategic oversight and supervision of administration, operations, infrastructure systems, and coordination of all online campus activities. To include short- and long-term strategic planning, scheduling, implementation, curriculum development, faculty recruitment, budgeting, interaction with advisory boards and other external constituencies, and accreditation and licensing issues.
  2. Oversee the department chairs in performing the tracking and analyzing of program data, specifically student performance and enrollment data for the division.
  3. Collaborate with department chairs on curriculum review and approval processes. Plans, directs and participates in program reviews and student learning outcomes assessment activities.
  4. Oversee resolution of conflicts with department chairs involving faculty, staff or student issues.
  5. Oversee the performance management process. Works with the department chairs to perform activities related to performance management within the subdivisions and programs (supervising creation of IPPs, midterm evaluations, end of cycle evaluations, validation meetings, and appeals with faculty.)
  6. Plan and administer budgets and facilitate the allocation of resources (capital/human/fiscal/physical) to accomplish instructional objectives through excellence and innovation and provides leadership, direction, and administrative support to the faculty and staff to enhance the teaching and learning processes in the programs within the online campus.
  7. Evaluate the need for new instructional software, digital tools, and resources, and ensures timely procurement to support effective online teaching and learning.
  8. Provide leadership, direction, and support to the online department chairs, directors, and support staff.
  9. Collaborates with other deans across the district on various projects and issues.
  10. Plan, develop and implement innovative partnerships with business/industry, government agencies, high schools, universities, and other entities as appropriate.
           
Additional Job Functions:              
  1. Evaluate curriculum to ensure compliance with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board guidelines, as well as state authorization requirements, including NC-SARA, for distance education delivery across state lines.
  2. Participates in the selection of division and operations leaders and full-time faculty.
  3. Serves on councils, committees, and tasks force as directed and supports the directors, department chairs, and lead faculty with their committee responsibilities.
  4. Seeks and provides managerial oversight of private, state and federal grants. 
  5. Engages with both virtual and on-campus student activities, including online forums, events, and student-sponsored initiatives, to support the personal and professional development of online learners and foster a sense of connection and community.
  6. Work with community groups to foster a working relationship for the college.
  7. Attends professional development opportunities for continuous learning in the dean position and improvements for the online campus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills, demonstrated strategic leadership abilities and proven results;     
  • Proven teaching success in higher education, preferably including experience in online environments;
  • Demonstrated achievement in curriculum management, including experience developing or overseeing online courses or programs;
  • Ability to lead and coordinate initiatives that support online teaching and learning, including digital pedagogy and instructional technology integration;
  • Effective and consistent organizational, conflict resolution, and management skills, with the ability to adapt leadership approaches in a virtual setting;
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated capacity to build relationships and foster collaboration across distributed teams;
  • Demonstrated sound working knowledge of personal computer hardware/software, business management system (i.e. Banner), learning management system (i.e., Blackboard Ultra), and the broader digital tools ecosystems supporting online education. 
  • Familiarity with distance education regulations and best practices, including accessibility standards (i.e., WCAG), online learning quality frameworks (i.e., Quality Matters, OSCQR), and state authorization requirements such as NC-SARA;
  • Administrative experience, including the ability to establish priorities and make difficult choices among competing demands and to make decisions in a consultative and informed manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and consistently lead, support, and motivate remote faculty and staff in an online or distributed work environment.

Required Education:
  • Master’s Degree from regionally accredited institution

Preferred Education:
  • Doctorate or terminal degree in discipline field from regionally accredited institution

Required Experience:
  • Three years of successful teaching experience at the community college level in a related field with five years of progressive and strategic administrative experience in higher education at the community college level or equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience:
  • Five years of successful teaching experience, both face-to-face and online, at the community college level in a related field with six or more years of progressive and strategic administrative experience in higher education at the community college level, including online instruction, or equivalent experience.



Note: This position has the opportunity for limited remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.

Salary Grade: 204
