The Agnes Irwin School is looking for a Substitute/Per Diem Middle School Learning Specialist. The Learning Spe

 Specialist will  foster the intellectual and personal growth of all students, particularly those with a learning plan, and to be a resource for their teachers and parents.  

Essential Functions:

  • Support the academic needs of students through one on one and small group support
  • Consult with the teachers of students with Learning Plans on best methods/ strategies
  • Implement Learning Plans across the caseload.  
  • Solicit and be responsive to feedback from teachers on the implementation of the LP
  • Oversee the space for extended time testing
  • Attend grade level meetings
  • Assist the math specialist and the IU reading specialist in assembling their case loads
  • Schedule, run and provide feedback for student centered teacher meetings
  • Respond to appropriate e-mail/telephone communications in a timely manner

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s  preferred in Educational or Psychological field
  • Demonstrated expertise in the fields of learning differences, academic (reading, etc.) remediation, classroom teaching and management
  • Successful experience in academic intervention and support preferred 
  • Ability to work as a contributing member of a team in an educational environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to include being cooperative and congenial and able to communicate effectively with students, teachers and parents
  • Proficiency with use of computer technology, office and audio-visual equipment as they pertain to the essential functions of this position
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently accomplish program goals in a timely fashion
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks with minimal supervision, and work in an environment subject to interruptions.
  • Outstanding communication skills to include the ability to use clear, concise, and grammatically correct written and oral language in all aspects of professional interaction with students, parents, peers, administration and the larger community
  • Understanding of the values of single sex education

Physical Requirements:

  • Adequate physical mobility, dexterity, strength, and endurance to actively supervise and lead middle and upper school students and be responsible for their physical safety during all school-related activities, including evacuations and other emergency response procedures.
