Position Description Summary/Purpose:

The part time lab manager will coordinate laboratory courses in the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program. The role is for a twelve-month lab manager and may include teaching and/or assisting in courses, coordination of all laboratory activities to meet safety/accreditation standards and all other aspects of laboratory management.

 

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in phlebotomy laboratory training with simulation devices
  • Collection of blood specimens through venipuncture and/or dermal puncture
  • Safety policy development and monitoring to meet OSHA standards
  • Laboratory inventory control, supply ordering and waste management
  • Laboratory preparation, specimen procurement and disposal
  • Laboratory organization and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Provide laboratory assistance and/or instruction, including assistance to adjunct instructors and faculty as needed. Hours may include evening or weekend and will need to be arranged with the instructor per semester.
  • Other projects as assigned utilizing available resources to meet the learning needs of SHP students as required by certification and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in university security/safety and lab-oriented committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Knowledge of clinical lab science principles, safety regulations, and university lab operations.
  • Skilled in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting MLS lab equipment and preparing instructional materials.
  • Ability to coordinate lab scheduling, manage inventory, and control budgets effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Proven ability to enforce safety and accreditation standards while training and supervising lab personnel.

Qualifications


Minimum Required Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Previous college, university lab teaching and/or clinical experience is required
  • BS degree required and 2 years recent clinical experience and
  • MLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.
  • MS degree and one year previous college or university lab experience acceptable.
  • Participation in the operation and maintenance of accreditation of a level 2 Microbiology laboratory preferred.
