We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Assistant Editor to join our esteemed Children's and Young Adult division. Reporting directly to the Literary Director of the Children's and Young Adult division, the ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish and English and have a solid background in education, particularly with experience as a teacher or librarian in elementary or middle schools in the United States. This role is essential for helping us curate and develop engaging content that resonates with young readers while meeting the needs of educators and parents. 

 

Specific responsibilities include: 
• Stays informed about trends in children's and young adult literature, as well as educational curricula, to guide editorial decisions. 
• Acquires children's books that are relevant to the U.S. educational market. 
• Conducts market research to identify gaps in the educational market for children's books and develops projects that address these opportunities. 
• Develops and prepares educational materials and resources for teachers, including catalogs, lesson plans, and book collections based on genres, topics, and grade levels. 
• Reads and evaluates manuscripts, writes reader reports, and provides creative feedback. 
• Reviews and manages metadata for all titles to ensure accuracy and consistency across platforms. 
• Maintains book schedules and tracks projects from acquisition through completion. 
• Drafts engaging cover/flap copy, online descriptions, front matter, and title information sheets. 
• Supports the Literary Director with project management, scheduling, and correspondence with authors and agents. 
• Prepares engaging title presentations in PowerPoint. 
• Supports the Sales department with literature-related requests. 

 

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications: 
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Education, Literature, Language, Psychology or related field 
• Bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish 
• Strong background in education, specifically as a teacher or librarian in elementary or middle school in the U.S. 
• Exceptional multitasking abilities, with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously 
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively 
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy 
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 
• Ability to work independently while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat 

 

The salary for this position is $56,000.00. All positions are currently eligible for an annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.   

 

This is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, based in Miami, FL. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our office.
