About the Department
The Science Department Assistant position for LCCC is a part-time, non-benefited, position that is responsible for supporting the Science Department by aiding in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy/Physiology and the STEM Pathway. The responsibilities of this position may include setup, maintenance, and operation of LCCC’s laboratory supplies and equipment, assisting in various labs, as well as working with the STEM Pathway Coordinator to coordinate and oversee STEM Pathway events and the STEM Mobile Lab. This position may be required to assist instructors in providing training and laboratory sessions to students through topics such as laboratory protocols, safety practices, equipment operation, and other topics as assigned. This position’s responsibilities also may include working with and around laboratory equipment; managing supplies and equipment inventories; animal care; inspecting and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE); maintaining equipment and training aids; cleaning lab areas and equipment; preparing laboratory materials; and overall assisting with the program needs as directed by supervising faculty. Proper protective equipment and safety standards must be utilized at all times in this work area. Individuals in this position are expected to represent the Department and LCCC in a professional manner.
Compensation: $15.03/hr.

Position Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – this position is non-exempt and is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).
- Provide animal care for the biology department.
- Determine and adhere to work schedule with supervisor.
Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
- While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required
- There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- An employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current or previous student at LCCC.
- Completion of college-level STEM course(s) related to the area of work (e.g. general chemistry courses to work in the chemistry lab).
Other Qualifications
If you are selected for the position, your appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. LCCC reserves the right to end this employment agreement should the results of your background investigation not be successful.
