Job Title: English-Language Arts Interventionist
Job Classification: Licensed Instructional (preferred)
Reports to: Building Administrator
Work Schedule: Academic Calendar
General Description:
The ELA Interventionist – Title I provides targeted reading and writing interventions to students who are performing below grade level in English-Language Arts. This position is funded through Title I and supports students in small-group or one-on-one settings using evidence-based strategies. The ELA Interventionist works closely with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to identify student needs, monitor progress, and ensure that every learner has access to foundational literacy skills.
Qualifications:
- Preferred Candidate with have a valid Indiana teaching license with an endorsement in Reading or Elementary/Secondary English
- Preferred Candidate with have a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree in Reading or Literacy preferred
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
- Experience providing reading interventions or literacy support, particularly in a Title I setting
- Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices, assessments, and RTI/MTSS frameworks
- Strong communication, collaboration, and data analysis skills
- Familiarity with intervention programs such as Fountas & Pinnell, Orton-Gillingham, or similar preferred
Primary Responsibilities:
- To provide ELA push in and pull out support.
- Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by the building and district leadership.
- Plan lessons using curriculum, instructional calendars and Indiana State Standards
- Plan lessons focusing on the rigor of the grade level curriculum while meeting students at their instructional level
- Plan lessons that are easily identifiable, focused and clear; reinforce lessons with additional instruction, learning activities, and appropriate assessment
- Adjust and plan lessons based on differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students
- Utilize classroom and corporation materials, resources and technology that enhance instruction
- Use assessment data to plan lessons and drive instruction
- Create a classroom environment that supports instruction
- Maintain an organized classroom to manage the classroom effectively and to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students
- Be a positive role model for all students
- Maintain a positive disciplinary plan for all students
- Develop a repertoire of teaching strategies to reach all learners
- Participate in Corporation and Building based Professional Development
- Communicate with parents in a clear, effective and timely manner
- Communicate and work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues
- Keep student, parent and family information confidential
- Adhere to School Board policies, Corporation policies and procedures, and building guidelines
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal and district administrators
School Activities:
- Attend staff meetings, Title I planning sessions, and professional development related to literacy
- Assist with family engagement events that promote literacy and academic success
- Support state testing, reading screeners, and benchmark assessments
- Contribute to school improvement planning and data team meetings
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Competency in the administration and interpretation of academic ability testing
- Ability to use technology for documentation and preparation of professional materials
- Ability to teach and assist students in the use of computer applications
- Ability to communicate assessment results, in written and oral forms, to parents and professionals
- Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate behavior plans for use in general and special education settings
- Ability to prioritize tasks, allocate time, and maintain schedule flexibility
- Must demonstrate foundational professionalism, including consistent attendance, punctuality, adherence to school policies and procedures, and strong employability skills. These are considered essential, non-negotiable expectations of the role.
