Job Summary

The CNC Machinist is responsible for the daily operation, setup, and quality assurance of machines within their designated area. This role supports both production goals and a culture of safety while upholding the core values of the company: Great People, Going Beyond, and Growing.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of the CNC Machinist consist of, but are not limited to:

Machine Operation and Setup

  • Independently set up machines for various jobs; seek assistance from a Supervisor or Senior Machinist for advanced setups as needed.
  • Execute efficient, high-quality machine operation, ensuring parts meet required specifications through frequent inspections and documentation.

Process Improvement and Collaboration

  • Proactively recommend and implement process improvements in collaboration with Engineering and Senior Machinists.
  • Assist in troubleshooting processes with the support of Supervisors, Engineers, and Senior Machinists to maintain optimal production flow.
  • Keep a comprehensive written log at each machine, creating a record of machine operations, part specifications, and setup notes accessible to other shifts or supervisors.

Quality Control and Inspection

  • Perform in-process inspections of machined products, accurately documenting results, and verifying adherence to standards.
  • Conduct and support first-piece inspections, ensuring alignment with inspection plans and troubleshooting as needed.

Maintenance and Training

  • Perform total productive maintenance on assigned machines, including minor repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Train other machinists or operators on job functions, controls, and machine operations to promote team competency and flexibility.
  • Maintain and promote a safe working environment, reporting potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and equipment issues promptly.

General

  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Machining or related field or work experience in place of education.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a machinist.
  • Previous experience working with CMM and VCMM

Competencies

  • Ability to express ideas, share information, listen actively, and demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communications.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints, use simple math to perform basic calculations, and use hand-held measuring tools.
  • Basic knowledge of CMM, VCMM, and GD&T.
  • Promotes a sense of urgency to expedite work through area while maintaining quality standards.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to make effective and timely decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged standing with occasional twisting (80-90% of the workday)
  • Pushing/pulling carts and/or pallet jacks
  • Dexterity with computers - the ability to type and use a mouse.
  • Frequent lifting of materials up to 40 lbs., occasional lifting to 75 lbs.
  • Continuous use of hands and upper extremities in fine and gross manipulation using various wrist positions and grip/pinch spans to operate equipment, push buttons, carry boxes, push carts, etc.
  • Frequent firm grip with tools requiring torque to tighten machine parts, tooling, and fixtures
  • Must be able to meet customer demand requirements for performing visual inspection and/or other product acceptance activities with or without accommodation (only for positions in which this is a requirement of the job per the customer requirement).
  • Ability to pass an annual vision test.
