Position Duties
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Provides application support by acting as subject matter expert and creating and maintaining documentation regarding how the application is intended to function and how the functionality is being utilized by City staff.
- Creates and maintains procedure and training manuals by documenting application capabilities and department use of the capabilities. Updates documentation after changes in live production.
- Maintains application software by researching, planning and executing upgrades, updates and patches.
- Reviews, analyzes and revises the efficiency and best practices of application processes by reviewing vendor updates and meeting with departments to obtain input and feedback, and maintaining and updating procedures before and after live production implementation.
- Performs verification tests on systems related to new applications, upgrades, updates by loading upgrades and updates in to the test system to ensure functionality. Maintains and revises testing documentation.
- Provides customer service by training end users in application usage and updates, assisting in the creation of reports, answering questions, and troubleshooting and resolving customer issues.
- Creates and designs ad hoc reports and/or database applications customized to specific needs of department users.
- Acts as liaison between department users and the application vendor to address system issues and improvements.
- The IT Applications Specialist is a HYBRID position
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, or related field and five (5) years of relevant experience. ERP (Financials, Human Resources, Community Development, Work Orders) and/or Public Safety (CAD, Mobile, RMS) applications experience preferred.
- Valid Class C Driver's License
Work is normally reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformance to established standards; autonomy is granted at the service or program level; work is subject to general and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.

- Reading user manuals and creating end-user documentation.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Providing outstanding customer service and conflict resolution.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.
- Understanding and interpreting complex laws, rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
- Creating, preparing, writing, and proofing reports, documents, and correspondence.
- Working effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
- Effectively communicating in both oral and written format.
