Responsibilities and Duties
Alberta Health Services is currently seeking the services of an independently licensed physician to assist in the management of medical inpatients in Orthopaedic Surgery under the Surgery Division at the University of Alberta Hospital in the Edmonton Zone.
The position will entail assessment and treatment of patients admitted to UAH Orthopaedic Surgery. The physician will respond to the medical needs of the patients as they arise over the course of the Physician's shift. They will participate in daily rounds of the patients on the Acute Care Orthopaedic Surgical service; respond to related concerns in the inpatient units. They will complete the appropriate documentation of patient progress, treatment and discharge summaries in accordance with Alberta Health Services policies and guidelines; work with the Surgeons, nursing staff and other health care professionals as a team to enhance the total care of the patient. Discuss the patient's progress with the patient and/or family members as appropriate; participate in the teaching of orthopaedic surgery residents during their Hospitalist rotation. Orthopaedic Hospitalists are expected to take part in quarterly Quality Improvement Activities.
The Orthopaedic Hospitalists provide their services seven days a week. The shifts worked are either daytime 0700 – 1700h Mon-Fri/ 0800-166h Sat-Sun or evenings Mon-Sun 1600 – 2400h.

Qualifications & Experience:
Successful Candidates will have a functional knowledge of resources and challenges in Alberta’s primary health care system. This knowledge will be supported by the candidate having completed a two-year Family Medicine Residency and by ongoing community primary care experience.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to teamwork and peer relationships. The successful candidate should be committed to fulfilling clinical and non-clinical duties as a representative of Family Medicine.
Candidates who are interested in providing regular long-term coverage are desired, although doctors looking for short term casual locum shifts will also be considered.
The successful candidate must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians and of Canada and for medical licensure in the province of Alberta. This posting does not qualify for CPSA Sponsorship Practice Readiness Assessments.
