Position Summary

The Rescue Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating all operational functions of the rescue team.

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Rescue Action Plan.
  • Coordinate, manage, and supervise all functional groups involved in rescue activities.
  • Determine rescue organizational and logistical needs.
  • Develop receiving briefings and situation reports and ensuring that all rescue personnel are kept informed of mission objectives and status changes.
  • Provide situation updates and maintains records and reports.
  • Demonstrate proficiency while preparing performance evaluations for assigned personnel.
  • Ensure accountability and maintenance for all issued equipment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in ensuring accountability of all assigned personnel.
  • Develop a mission specific Rapid Intervention Plan including personnel & equipment needs.
  • Oversees the human resource functions of assigned team, performance appraisals, coaching and counseling team. Recommends and provides input for salary and job change actions to upper management.  Ensures that all personnel receive safety and process training.  Coache and counsel team to improve technical skills and interpersonal and problem resolution skills.  Works to identify and provide opportunities for team to learn new skills and techniques.
  • Assists others as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:  Associate’s degree from an accredited college in a related field and five (5) years’ industrial experience or equivalent training combined with ten (10) years’ industrial experience preferred.  Must have experience in a Rescue environment within an industrial service, refining, petrochemical or manufacturing environment.

Required Licenses or Specific Training:  Must have current driver’s license and valid proof of vehicle insurance if driving company vehicle.  Must possess good driving record and be insurable by TSS Total Safety Services Inc Inc. insurance providers for vehicle insurance while driving company truck.

Other Required Skills, Knowledge or Abilities: Must have completed the following trainings:  , PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), Respiratory Fit Tested, Fall Protection, H2S Alive, Fire Safety / Fire Watch, Confined Space Entry & Monitor, Confined Space Rescue, Technical Rope Rescue Level II as required by facility.  General Industry Safety and Health First Responder or better preferred.  Technical Rope Rescue Level III, Technical Rope Rescue Instructor.  Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) preferred.

Certifications:  First Responder or better, EMT Basic or better preferred, Healthcare Provider CPR, First Aid with AED, Rescue Technician, Confined Space Entry & Rescue Certification, NFPA 1006 and Pro-Board Certification a plus.

Other Required Skills, Knowledge or Abilities: Proficiency with MS Office and other function-specific software.

Must understand and effectively manage key financial issues that impact rescue functions and the business.

Knowledge of Provincial OHS , and other rules and regulations associated with facility and employee Health & Safety.

Organization skills and self-motivation are critical to the success of this position.

Must possess high ethical standards demonstrated by their approach to business.

Must demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, an unwavering commitment to safety and health and other company policies and procedures.

Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.

Interpersonal Communication:  Effective communication (written, verbal and listening) and interpersonal skills.  Ability to effectively interact with and develop and maintain strong rapport and credibility with senior management in company.  Interfaces with internal personnel, customers and industry groups.  Regularly interfaces with and develops strong relationships with technicians and operations personnel.  Shares opinions, ideas and resources with others to achieve common goals; fosters teamwork and collaboration, builds trust.  Works with all functional areas to understand issues and to develop solutions.  Collaborates with peers to best utilize resources and systems and to actively improve Health and Safety Management System.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop and bend.  Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Splits time between office and shop or field locations.  Travels to other facilities in assigned area as needed.

Reporting Relationships

Complexity of Duties and Decisions:  Plans and carries out assignments, resolve conflict, and coordinates work with others.  Anticipates and proactively solves complex problems through creative use of internal/external resources both inside and outside of discipline expertise.  Brings multiple solutions to complex problems to the table.  Identify, evaluate and implement processes/ procedures and required improvements to eliminate negative impacts.  Most of work is not subject to detailed review, so errors may be critical and have long-term impact.

Authority:  Work with Sr. Management to set direction and objectives, interpret policy issues, develop new concepts & resolve unusual problems.  Receives general guidance and strategic direction:  Assignments are made in terms of broad practice, precedents, policies, and goals.  Plans and carries out successive steps and resolves problems and deviations in accordance with instructions, policies, and accepted practices.

In addition to supervisory duties, has impact on budgeting, controlling costs, planning, and scheduling & procedural change.  Teaches and empowers others to make decisions within established parameters.

Is expected to independently analyze situations and data to determine best course of action and to make positive and active contributions to assist the organization in achieving its key financial and growth goals.
