Your role
What you'll be doing
Corpay powers two of Australasia’s most trusted fuel card brands: FleetCard (Australia) and CardSmart (New Zealand). Our products are used by thousands of businesses every day to fuel their fleets and access services across a wide network of merchants.
As our new Merchant Operations Manager, you and your team will be at the heart of the FleetCard (AU) and CardSmart (NZ) merchant networks. Your team will directly service our independent merchants, while you manage the operational relationships with dealer groups, and act as the key point of contact for Oil Companies. From onboarding and lifecycle management to maintaining accurate merchant data, validating invoices, producing insights through reporting, and resolving escalations, you’ll ensure the network operates seamlessly so our customers can rely on FleetCard and CardSmart at every stop. This position falls under our Customer Experience (CX) line of business and is based in our Ellerslie office. You will report directly to the Customer Services Director and regularly collaborate with the Sales, Servicing, IT/Ops and Commercial teams
How We Work
Following three months of training as the Merchant Operations Manager, you will be expected to work in a hybrid (3 days in office/2 days from home) environment. Corpay will set you up for success by providing:
- Workspace in Ellerslie office
- Company-issued equipment
- Formal, hands-on training
Role Responsibilities
As the Merchant Operations Manager, you’ll lead and manage a team of 4 dedicated merchant service advisors and be responsible for overseeing the core merchant operational processes such as processing merchant applications and onboarding them, lifecycle marketing, reporting, validating invoices, ensuring data accuracy and oversight of terminal rentals. The Merchant Operations Manager ensures these activities are delivered accurately, efficiently and in compliance with commercial and regulatory requirements. Your team will resolve merchant queries within agreed SLAs, provide frontline servicing support, and escalate complex issues as required.
Other responsibilities may include:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of dedicated Merchant Service Advisors. Provide training, feedback, and foster a customer-first culture.
- Maintain accurate merchant data (contacts, commercial terms, addresses, branding) to ensure integrity of the site locator, invoices, discounts, and MSF charges.
- Review invoices from merchants and oil companies not paid through the CMS to confirm volumes and terms align with data before approving or recommending approval.
- Produce weekly/monthly reports to support other functions (e.g., list of merchant surcharges for sales) and provide insights into merchant performance and team activity.
- Provide operational leadership across the merchant portfolio, ensuring consistent servicing standards, accurate commercial terms, and relationship support in coordination with Network Partnerships.
- Manage Windcave terminal rental arrangements, ensuring correct charging, operation, and administration.
Qualifications & Skills
This is a key role that requires someone who is not just organized and efficient, but also a natural relationship builder. Proven team leadership experience is essential, together with experience in merchant services, account management or operational leadership. Must be able to motivate, inspire and develop a team, and be proficient using CRM tools and analytics platforms. This role will really suit a strategic thinker looking to improve service delivery processes. More than anything, you'll have a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a drive to provide high quality outcomes for our merchants.
To be considered for this role, you must also have the following skills and experience:
- 5+ years’ experience in a customer-facing or operational role with at least 2 years of experience leading a team
- Experience resolving complex queries and driving operational improvements.
- Strong understanding of B2B service environments.
