Maintenance Manager Job Description

 

Job Summary - Plans, directs and monitors preventative and corrective maintenance and repair activities to ensure the company’s buildings, facilities, machinery, and equipment operate reliably and efficiently.   Will oversee the planning, execution, continuous improvement of preventative and corrective maintenance programs.  Optimize equipment performance, work flow, manage vendor relationships, extend life cycle of key production infrastructure/layout. 

 

This is a 'hands-on' position and requires technical expertise in electricity, pneumatics, mechanical drives, and hydraulics. Spending the majority of time on the production floor.

 

Reports to Plant Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day maintenance activities, ensuring the team follows work orders and schedules.
  • Supervise and support maintenance technicians, providing guidance/training when needed.
  • Ensure that maintenance tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and according to standard operating procedures.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities to identify potential maintenance issues before they become major problems.
  • Communicate with the Plant manager and planner about ongoing tasks and upcoming priorities.
  • Monitor the use of maintenance tools and equipment, ensuring they are properly maintained and stored.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant work environment, adhering to all safety standards and regulations.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations of maintenance staff, providing feedback and setting goals. (Done alongside Maintenance manager)
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex equipment failures and identifying solutions.
  • Ensure that completed work is documented properly in the maintenance management system. (Spread sheets; excel/Smart sheet and google docs—until Interal is implemented)
  • Oversee all maintenance activities across facilities, ensuring optimal equipment performance.
  • Develop and implement maintenance policies, procedures, and schedules.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, including cost control and forecasting.
  • Coordinate with other department heads to ensure alignment of maintenance activities with operational needs.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental laws, and company policies.
  • Analyze equipment performance data and trends to improve maintenance efficiency.
  • Plan for facility upgrades and major repairs as needed.
  • Develop long-term maintenance strategies and capital improvement plans.
  • Ensure a robust preventative maintenance program is in place. (
  • Develop spreadsheets, forms, systems, procedure and policies to support all of the above.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics a plus
  • Previous supervisor experience - 5+ years of experience leading a technician team
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment required.
  • Background with manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedure is required.
  • Strong interviewing and recruiting skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with partners in operations as well as in HR and accounting
  • P&L comprehension, including ability to analyze and manage expense controls
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; confidence in working with all stakeholders
  • Competence to plan maintenance schedules
  • Excellent interpersonal and delegation skills
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Critical-thinking skills
  • Dexterity and physical stamina

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Lifting-Up to 20lbs.
  • Standing-4 or more hours per day.
  • Walking-Off and on, 4-6 hours per day.
  • Body Positions-Squatting, bending, flexing and extending both arms.
