POSITION SUMMARY
The Greenville office of Carroll Daniel Engineering is seeking an experienced Process Chemical Engineer to lead our efforts to provide design engineering & support for process industrial manufacturing clients. This key role will manage the process chemical design group and work with our Project Managers and Business Development team to capture and deliver complex projects for Fortune 500 manufacturers. Key capabilities for this role include:
- Experience writing technical proposals for complex capital engineering projects.
- Ability to produce manhour estimates for project deliverables.
- Expertise in developing detailed process design documents including Process Flow Diagrams, General Arrangement drawings, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
- Developing and mentoring junior design team members.
- Ability to work directly with clients, technology and equipment providers, and other engineering disciplines.
- BS in Chemical with Engineering, active PE license, and 15+ years of relevant experience.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
During the planning and preconstruction phases, this role partners directly with clients to define project scopes and create front-end design documents. The Process Team will develop essential deliverables, including General Arrangement drawings, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), heat and material balances, and equipment design specifications during the detailed design phase. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the Process Team in producing General Arrangement drawings and construction documentation.
- Performing hydraulic calculations, pressure relief device calculations, and process hazard analyses.
- Utilizing simulation software for system and process analysis.
- Providing leadership and direction to designers and engineers.
- Supporting construction and field operations as needed, ensuring alignment with project designs.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and responsive service.
- Participating in project planning, design reviews, and problem-solving during all phases of the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
- Design and optimize chemical processes and systems.

- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in technical and professional development.
- Analyze data and implement solutions to enhance process efficiency.
- Develop and manage project timelines and budgets.
- Contribute to sustainability and environmental impact reduction efforts.
- Proficiency with process simulation software and familiarity with hydraulic and pressure relief calculations.
- Strong understanding of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) methodologies.
- Excellent professional writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships and lead project teams.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- In general, performance of the job has this role operating from an office location vs a project location.
- The Director of Process Engineering will be subject to jobsite conditions and therefore should be able to cope with and withstand these conditions.
- This position requires the ability and willingness to travel overnight to client locations as required by project demands.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Education: Bachelor’s of Chemical Engineering (BSChE) required.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in process engineering, with a focus on specialty chemical, films and fibers, nonwovens, or related manufacturing industries.
- Licensure: Active PE certification (SC preferred).
