Sr. Project Manager
The primary purpose of the Senior Project Manager role is to lead, oversee, and ensure the successful delivery and management of single or multiple projects within scope, quality, time, and cost constraints that may be clearly defined or may require dynamic change management to deliver business value. The role will work with technology teams and lead overall project management and planning for the Professional Services and Managed Services organizations within UDT, including customer-facing and non-customer facing engagements. Crucially, this role will be on-site and fully dedicated to a key client (school district), to oversee and manage all IT-related projects and programs within a co-managed IT services framework.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of complex projects that span one or multiple lines of business.
- Provide project leadership for project teams by building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones.
- Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for one major or several minor initiatives simultaneously. This includes meticulous management of project activities to ensure seamless integration and operational readiness within the client's environment.
- Manage all aspects of multiple related projects to ensure the overall program is aligned to and directly supports the achievement of strategic objectives.
- Report on project success criteria results, metrics, test, and deployment management activities.
- Work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
- Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization.
- Prepare estimates and detailed project plan for all phases of the project.
- Manage the day-to-day project activities and resources and chair the project management team meetings.
- Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and issues, communicating to UDT leadership and UDT Customers, specifically client stakeholders.
- Understand interdependencies between technology, operations, and business needs.
- Support formal/informal schedules to manage the engagement contract.
- Understand the Statement of Work and Specifications for the requested goods and services.
- Manage all aspects of project and program engagement from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks, and issues. This will involve close collaboration with the client's IT teams and leveraging their existing IT toolsets.
- Set and continually manage project and program expectations while delegating and managing deliverables with team members and stakeholders.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
- Monitor, track, and control outcomes to resolve issues, conflicts, dependencies, and critical path deliverables.
- Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations to various audiences, including project team, sponsors, and key stakeholder.
- Identify and develop trusted adviser relationship with project and program stakeholders, sponsors, and stakeholders.
- Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project and program team.
- Deliver appropriate and effective management level communication.
- Ensure that projects and programs are proceeding according to scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Manage project and program issues and risks to mitigate impact to baseline.
- Extensive understanding of project and program management principles, methods, and techniques.
- Initiate the project with a structured kickoff meeting and planning session, establishing technical and operational groundwork by addressing key components such as assigning roles and responsibilities for all team members, verifying site details, reviewing solution architecture, collecting essential site information, defining critical milestones, establishing robust communication protocols, implementing change management workflows, setting clear escalation pathways, and defining measurable criteria for project success and operational readiness within the co-managed model.
- Organize targeted technical coordination meetings with the client's engineering team to address design, implementation, and operational strategies, ensuring alignment on critical details and technical priorities.
- Ensure that all communication and ticketing related to this agreement are conducted through client’s designated platform.
- Adhere to Client’s established change management processes and approval protocols for all system updates, configuration changes, and firmware upgrades.
Qualifications
- Excellent experience in SDLC Methodologies, Agile, SCRUM, SDLC / Waterfall Strong leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills including the ability to lead up, across and down multiple business and technology organizations.
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment demonstrating teamwork, innovation, and excellence.
- Build and maintain relationships by engaging business leaders to establish credibility, solve problems, build consensus, and achieve objectives. Demonstrated ability to seamlessly integrate with and provide leadership within a client's existing IT department and culture.
- Excellent leadership, communication (written, verbal and presentation) and interpersonal skills. Exceptional communication skills required for on-site client engagement and coordination.
- Prior experience deploying and implementing project / program management standards cross the enterprise.
- Self-motivated, decisive, with the ability to adapt to change and competing demands.
- Research best practices within and outside the organization to establish benchmark data and use continuous process improvement disciplines to achieve results.
- Experience in successfully leading projects and programs to on-time, on-schedule and within budget close.
- Experience leading, motivating and managing various project and program team sizes, including internal, external & third-party resources, while holding team accountable for performance.
- Strong experience presenting to executive sponsors and demonstrated communication skills, both written and oral with technical and non-technical staff, all levels of management.
- Flexible with proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Technically competent with various software programs, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), Microsoft Projects, ConnectWise, Smartsheets, or alike.
- Minimum 5 years work experience in a professional services or consulting environment.
- Knowledge of major business technologies is a bonus (such as Cloud, Microsoft, and Cisco).
- The ability to lead and mentor junior and intermediate PM’s enabling growth and continued success, is a plus.
- Excellent business acumen and strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Not afraid to break ground on new relationships and skillfully overcome challenges with customers and team members.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet project deadlines.
- Mandatory on-site presence at the client's facilities as a dedicated resource.
- Preferred Certifications: PMP Certification / CSM Certification / POPM SAFe Certification.
- A post-secondary degree (university preferred, PMI & ITIL Certifications are an asset).
