MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A focus on serving students and staff in the pursuit of outstanding student achievement.

Three (3) years of exceptional teaching experience with impressive student achievement gains and a record of believing in all students.

Informal and formal school-based leadership beyond the classroom.

Master’s degree in school administration from an accredited institution.

Knowledge and understanding of the NC Common Core State Curriculum, curriculum development, child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning assessments.

Skilled in the analysis, interpretation and use of school performance data.

Experience being highly successful and effective with diverse staff and student populations.

Capable at effectively using a number of software programs including Microsoft Office programs and other school-level technology platforms.

Professional oral and written communication skills.

Citizenship, residency or work VISA in the United States required.

Valid driver’s license.

SUPERVISOR/CHAIN OF COMMAND: Principal/Chief Academic Officer

WORKING SCHEDULE: Exempt, salaried, full-time position. Hours will be flexible to meet the various requirements of the position.  

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Thomas Academy provides a unique, small classroom environment for children in grades 3 - 12.  Assistant Principal overall responsibilities: Provides information to the Principal regarding program needs, status, and recommendations for improvement. Represents Thomas Academy in meetings at various agencies including IEP meetings, workshops and conferences relating to the areas of educational expertise.  Assist the Principal with monitoring the quality of program services to ensure compliance with professional quality assurance standards and set forth by Thomas Academy.  Assists with training the curriculum coaches, teachers and para-professionals in the methods for implementing and maintaining effective instruction and assessment, both in the existing curriculum and in initiatives for curriculum improvement. The Assistant Principal is a leader and representative of the school who will be contributing in collaboration with the Principal to: 

 JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Ensure full implementation of the Teaching Family Model of Care in Thomas Academy
  2. Assist the Principal to implement the instructional program
  3. Demonstrate educational leadership
  4. Assist in providing leadership to supervise the Thomas Academy staff
  5. Provide public relations and community involvement
  6. Manage the physical plant of Thomas Academy
  7. Assist the Principal with managing the business and financial matters related to the daily operation of Thomas Academy
  8. Review, adjust and approve student schedules
  9. Ability to effectively lead a diverse staff and student population and to implement data-driven decisions effecting Thomas Academy
  10. Work with the Principal to grow community student enrollment
  11. Work with the Principal to develop and implement school policies and procedures

  12. Provide support to teachers by leading and coaching teachers in instructional design and delivery including relevant technology into the development of their lesson plans

  13. Set and achieve performance culture and equity goals for the school

  14. Maintain a safe and positive school culture and climate that fosters learning and respect

  15. Facilitate professional development activities

  16. Handle student discipline issues

  17. Support the Principal in strategic planning

  18. Develop and cultivate strong relationships with students, staff, parents and guardians, and community leaders

  19. Address student and parent concerns

  20. Conduct and supervise parent conferences

  21. Assist with budget planning and management

  22. Coordinate school events

  23. Oversee extracurricular activities

  24. Oversee the curriculum and academic programs

  25. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate school personnel

  26. Coordinate school bus/van care.

  27. Contribute to the development and success of Thomas Academy Charter School, its Mission and Vision

  28. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or CEO/Superintendent

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Supervision of students who may be emotionally troubled/challenged. May require physical interventions, mental creativity, and active participation in sports, educational, social and other physical activities. 

Physical Requirements: 

Walking, jogging 50% 

Sports activities, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling (up to 25#), bending, twisting, tool use, standing 25%

Kneeling, walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs/ladders, reaching, squeezing, keyboarding, sitting, physical restraints, lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying (up to 50#) 25%
