Position:
The College of Education invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month position in the Department of Special Education. The preferred begin date is August 2026.
Qualifications:
Required:
Earned doctorate or ABD in Special Education, educational psychology, educational measurement, or a closely related field. Birth-21 or postsecondary teaching or comparable experience in special education or closely related field. Quantitative research experience and familiarity with quantitative research methodology, including but not limited to expertise in research design, mixed methods, measurement and statistics, program evaluation, education data science, data visualization, instrument design, or special education research methods. Evidence of scholarly potential, including but not limited to doctoral research, research presentations, evaluation work, publications, and work in progress. Strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills
Preferred:
Familiarity with special education policy at the local, state, federal or international level. Familiarity with one or more of the following: evidence-based literacy supports or behavior supports; moderate to high intensity supports for students with disabilities; students with developmental or cognitive disabilities. Higher education teaching experience
Responsibilities:
Faculty will be assigned standard instructional tenure-track workload of six course units per academic year (typically 3 course units/semester) with one-course reduction in first year. Faculty may teach undergraduate and graduate special education, research, policy or methodology courses, including classwork, supervised research practica, and internships. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in main campus programs, satellite programs or online. This position also may involve the recruitment of students and student advising at the graduate and undergraduate level. Faculty will also establish and pursue scholarly research agenda commensurate with background, as well as engaging in service.
The Department:
The Special Education Department (https://www.towson.edu/coe/departments/specialed/) is housed within the College of Education and has over 30 full-time faculty. Courses are offered at the main campus in Towson, at Towson University NorthEast, at the Universities at Shady Grove campus, and in online and hybrid programs. The Department offers graduate-level programming in Special Education, including Master’s-level programming within the Department and collaboration with doctoral programs outside the Department, as well as undergraduate programming in Special Education, Early Childhood/ Special Education, and Elementary Education/ Special Education. Faculty within the Special Education Department collaborate regularly with faculty within and beyond the College of Education.

Salary and Benefits:
Targeted salary range: $70,000-72,000
