Are you an emerging academic with a passion for both teaching and research in the mathematical sciences? The School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics (SMAS) at the University of Wollongong invites applications for two continuing Lecturer positions: one specialising in Mathematics and the other in Applied Statistics.

About the Roles

As a Lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Applied Statistics, you will contribute to high-quality research, innovative teaching, and meaningful service and governance within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. 

In terms of teaching, there is a strong expectation for quality student engagement and a commitment to continuous improvement in teaching practice. You will prepare and deliver lectures and seminars, conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or studio sessions. These tasks may include developing and producing subject/teaching materials with appropriate guidance from the subject or course coordinator.

In terms of research, the successful candidate will have research experience in an area of mathematics/statistics with preferences given to the areas listed in the corresponding position description. It is expected that the successful candidate will continue to publish in quality journals in the relevant area of research as well as start to apply for competitive research grants.

You will be a motivated academic with a desire to build a strong career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment. You will bring:

  • A PhD in Mathematical Sciences or Statistical Sciences
  • A growing research track record and demonstrated research potential
  • Proven teaching experience in mathematics or related disciplines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • A willingness to contribute to academic governance and professional engagement
