About the Department

St. Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) includes an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara. 

About the Role

A Senior Clinician will work on a 7-day rotating roster from 8:30am -5:00pm. They will provide psychological and psychosocial interventions to enable improved resilience for individuals who have attempted suicide or present with suicidal planning and intent. This group of consumers may present with multiple complex problems including co-morbid high prevalence disorders, associated social relationship issues, everyday living skill needs. Clinical staff on the HOPE team will work collaboratively with Lived Experience Workers, Psycho-social worker and medical staff. Clients could be referred from anywhere within the hospital or from the community.

Classification Range

  • OT/SW Grade 3 YB24 - YB27 or YC46 - YC49 ($93,860 - $107,234 per annum pro rata)

  • Psychologist Grade 3 PL1 - PL4 ($96,886 - $110,323 per annum pro rata)

Duties

  • Undertake assessment and provide brief care coordination and case management for up to 3 months linking into long term follow up services.

  • Engage in regular risk assessment and safety planning with clients.

  • Utilise the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) model to understand suicidal drivers as well as to create and implement a collaborative treatment plan.

  • Demonstrate advanced therapeutic skills and the ability to provide expert assessment of and interventions to clients.

  • Build a therapeutic alliance with the consumer and family/carers and actively engage them in the planning, delivery and evaluation of their care.

  • Efficient utilisation of time to independantly manage the allocated case load offering outreach and inreach appointments at the community clinics, home visits and community locations within catchment.

  • Monitor clients for increasing risks and provide timely reviews as well as escalate risk concerns following team procedures when deterioration occurs.

  • Facilitate linkage with private practitioners and community services as indicated which may include but is not limited to Primary Health Care, private practitioners, St Vincents Community Mental health teams, NDIS agencies, Drug & Alcohol and housing services etc.

  • Participate in clinical reviews and provide clinical leadership while working collaboratively within multidisciplinary team and actively contribute to clinical practice within the mental health service as a senior staff member.

  • Provide leadership and encourage a culture of active participation in professional development and ongoing learning opportunities including discipline specific training and research.

  • Participate in regular group supervisions offered to all team members as well as regular line management meetings with the Manager or Team Leader.

  • Support any evaluation and research initiatives within the team and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.

  • Provide supervision to staff, new graduate clinicians as well as students within the relevant discipline.

  • Display clinical expertise and leadership in the utilisation of discipline-specific skills as appropriate and as required by consumers, their family/carers and the Service.

  • Assist in the provision of primary, secondary and tertiary consultation services, community development and education, liaison and linkage to other agencies that also provide support to people with mental illnesses as required.

  • Display a high standard of clinical practice and professional conduct at all times.

  • Maintenance of all documentation in line with SVMH policies, including clinical documentation, outcome measures and CMI reporting to contribute towards team KPIs.

  • Participate on a 7 day roster system which includes weekend working, carry out duty clinician tasks when rostered for duty and any other expectations appropriate to this position.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Master's Degree or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology recognized by the Australian Psychological Society and registered as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

  • Bachelor of Social Work (B.SW). Eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work and registered as a Social Worker with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

  • Bachelor of Occupational Therapy.  Eligible for membership of Australian Association of Occupational Therapy and registered as an Occupational Therapist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in a mental health setting

  • A current Victorian driver’s licence.
