Position Scope

  • Performs all of the duties in preparing the IMU pit(s) and pig(s) to be used in the IMU ceremony.

  • Maintains and cleans equipment and grounds used for the IMU cooking and presentation at the Ali’i Luau.


Requirements

  • Must be able to lift items weighing up to 125 pounds on a daily basis. 

  • Prepares imu pit to size and monitors burning to ensure proper heating of rocks.

  • Prepares, seasons, and transports whole pig(s) and other cooking materials and secures in IMU pit with proper layering of banana leaves, stumps, burlap carpets and plastic coverings and other weighted materials.

  • Assembles and organizes wood and rocks and burns rocks in preparation for IMU cooking.

  • Cleans area of tools and removes all unburned wood and materials and supplies and returns tools and trash bin to storage area. Washes and sanitizes utensils and equipment and returns for proper storage area.

  • Gathers and prepares equipment's, tools and all materials used for IMU cooking and transports to IMU site.

  • Cleans imu pit(s) of coals, leaves, rocks and other debris. Prepares bridge and lagoon area for Ali’I Luau show

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by culinary services management

  • Must exemplify the University Honor Code, including the dress and grooming principles and expectations.

  • Preference will be given to students who can work during academic breaks.

Work Schedule

19 hours; 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Monday through Saturday, with Wednesdays off

Approximate starting hourly rate:

$14.00 - $16.00

The wage offered could be above or below range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description.
