Job Description
Summary: ADM is seeking a strategic and commercially minded Director of Carbon Origination and Market Development to lead the identification, evaluation, and development of CO₂ sourcing opportunities across the Midwest. This role will be instrumental in building the business case for sequestration and utilization projects, driving organic growth of existing platforms, and unlocking transformative opportunities through new partnerships and business structures.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of carbon markets, tax incentives, logistics economics, and the evolving decarbonization landscape. This role requires a unique blend of customer focus, market intelligence, and strategic execution to position ADM as a leader in low-carbon solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Origination & Market Engagement
- Lead outreach and relationship development with CO₂ emitters across the Midwest to identify viable sequestration and utilization opportunities.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of potential projects through proactive engagement and market scanning.
- Develop robust commercial models for CO₂ projects, incorporating tax incentives (e.g., 45Q), voluntary carbon markets, and customer sustainability goals.
- Evaluate project economics including compression, transport, and logistics cost structures.
- Assess margin and risk management strategies for each opportunity.
- Monitor and analyze regional and global decarbonization trends, including EU policy developments and corporate net-zero commitments.
- Track competitor activity and emerging technologies in the carbon capture and utilization space.
- Drive organic growth by expanding ADM’s existing carbon platforms.
- Identify and pursue transformative growth opportunities through new business structures, partnerships, and technologies.
- Work closely with technical, legal, finance, and operations teams to align project development with ADM’s strategic goals.
- Support internal decision-making with clear, data-driven recommendations.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field .
- 7+ years of experience in business development, strategy, or commercial roles within agriculture, energy, industrials, or carbon-related sectors.
- Strong understanding of markets, margin structures, and logistics.
- Proven ability to originate and structure complex commercial deals.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
