POSITION SUMMARY:

The Outreach Coordinator partners with other community organizations that provide services to the Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) population to coordinate community-wide education and information effort targeting to identify and assist RHY.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design and implement outreach plans to engage families in on-campus and community activities.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to promote community engagement opportunities.
  • Conduct outreach to locate runaway and homeless youth; distribute essentials like food, water, hygiene products, and clothing.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and facilitate group activities.
  • Collaborate with treatment teams and shelter counselors to develop individualized treatment plans for youth.
  • Build relationships with community organizations to support outreach and create a resource list.
  • Maintain partnerships with agencies supporting homeless youth and families.
  • Lead local marketing efforts, awareness campaigns, and events.
  • Represent YFA at speaking engagements, festivals, concerts, and community events.
  • Create written documentation and materials for reference and communication.
  • Provide content ideas for press releases and media features to leadership.
  • Engage and build relationships with parents to support youth development.
  • Serve as a Youth Development Specialist as needed.
  • Act as a role model for youth, demonstrating positive behavior and interactions.
  • Assist with facility tasks, food preparation, client supervision, field trips, and record keeping.
  • Work under the supervision of Residential Supervisor and Shift Leads with limited autonomy.
  • Transport clients when necessary.
  • Be available to work during extreme weather events (e.g., hurricanes or tropical storms).

Requirements

WHAT YOU NEED:


Education & Experience:

· High School Diploma, bachelor’s degree in education or a human service-related field (preferred).

· 3 years of combined experience in at least 2 of the following specialties: education, human services, and/or community outreach.

· Experience in serving as an advocate for children/parents, building community relationships, and convening workshops (preferred).

· Ability to manage personal reactions to traumatic stories and situations and communicate a sense of trust and safety.

· Ability to understand and empathize with individuals, recognizing the impact of trauma on emotions, relationships, and overall well-being.

· Preferred knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed principles and practices, including the importance of creating a safe environment, fostering trust, promoting collaboration, and empowering individuals.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

· Ability to maintain a wide range of internal and external relationships

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Ability to work cooperatively in a group/team setting and show respect to others

· Ability to work at a high level of autonomy, and exhibit sound decision-making skills and critical thinking

· Proven problem solving and conflict resolution skills

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites

· Skilled in actively listening to concerns, providing a safe space for individuals to express themselves without judgment or blame


Physical Requirements:

Position requires employee to work with computers daily. Ability to travel in multi-county areas frequently. Ability to lift 25 pounds, bend, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
