Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the college’s comprehensive commercial strategy and student recruitment plan, aligning with our established reputation as 'The College for Business'.
- Oversee student recruitment across all areas (16–18 provision, adult education, apprenticeships, higher education, commercial and full cost etc.), ensuring campaigns and outreach activities meet or exceed target.
- Establish and lead a newly created attraction function, a bespoke applicant-facing service to provide personalised, proactive engagement with prospective students and new businesses.
- Identify and develop new income-generating opportunities for the college, forging partnerships with businesses and external organisations.
- Work closely with curriculum schools, Directors of Faculty, Vice Principal Curriculum Development and Innovation, and the Vice Principal Student Participation and Development to ensure curriculum offerings and student support align with recruitment goals and market demand.
- Line-manage the Director of Marketing and Communications, ensuring marketing and communications strategies support student recruitment and attraction functions.
- Provide inspirational leadership to teams responsible for marketing, student recruitment, admissions, and employer engagement.
- Represent the college to key external stakeholders and build strategic partnerships across the city region and with schools, employers, and community organisations.
- Champion strategies to recruit a diverse and inclusive student body, working closely with the Director of Diversity and Inclusion.
- Ensure processes deliver an excellent experience for applicants while upholding compliance requirements.
- Monitor and analyse recruitment data, market research, and demographic trends to inform decision-making.
- Collaborate with the Director of Student Services, Director of Learning Support and Wellbeing, and Directors of Education to ensure student services, learning support, and curriculum areas are aligned with recruitment and commercial strategies.
- Maintain and enhance the college’s established reputation as 'The College for Business', with a focus on further developing sector partnerships and the services offered to employers.
- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
- To take a proactive approach and responsibility for personal professional development, Health & Safety, and meeting other regulatory compliance (e.g. GDPR, Safeguarding), thereby enabling safe and professional working practices to be observed at all times.
- To support cross college actives as required, particularly during key enrolment and invigilation periods.
- Carry out any other relevant and appropriate duties as determined by the needs of the service and as appropriate to the grade.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Substantial experience at a senior level in student recruitment, marketing, or commercial development within education or another relevant sector.
- Strong strategic planning skills with the ability to translate broad goals into actionable plans.
- Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to identify and capitalise on new business opportunities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build networks and partnerships.
- Strong people management skills with experience leading multi-functional teams.
- A creative and forward-thinking approach to problem-solving, market attraction, and market retention.
- Commitment to delivering an outstanding experience for prospective students and partners.
- Passionate about the influence this role can have within the college’s commitment to equality and inclusion.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, target-driven environment with resilience and adaptability.
- Graduate or post-graduate level education or equivalent professional experience.
- Clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and commitment to integrity and transparency.
- Deep understanding of the FE and HE landscape, including sector challenges and opportunities.
