Job Statement
To perform those functions necessary for the daily operations, monitoring, and exception processing of the AMI Head End, MDMS, and CIS applications. This includes the configuration of these systems and editing data within to ensure the accuracy of data used for billing, products and services. This position will analyze AMI data events, assist with data management, perform reconciling functions, testing and reporting to assist the meter shops, AMI Operations, and IT personnel maintain reliable AMI data and optimize meter functionality for all utility services. This position will also work with the different meter shop personnel to identify process improvements and optimize departmental efficiency.
Essential Duties
- Monitors the AMI network communications and data collections.
- Resolves data and communication error reports generated by the AMI Head End System (HES) and the Meter Data Management System (MDMS).
- Initiates work orders and coordinates field investigations with service personnel for devices with communication errors.
- Installs, exchanges, removes, and reverses metering devices in the CIS system.
- Analyzes data used for billing, products, and services for accuracy and that the data reflects true operational characteristics.
- Monitors systems for accurate and timely data gathering.
- Analyzes consumption patterns to identify meter reading discrepancies.
- Assists with the defining and coordinating of test cases for device exchanges.
- Maintains reports and alarms for data validation, exception processing, and troubleshooting efforts.
- Participates in cross-functional projects involving but not limited to the CIS, MDMS, AMI HES, OMS, Operations Analytics, or any other system that requires data from the AMI systems.
Additional Duties
- Resolves missing reading data issues from individual accounts and perform data extraction/imports from various systems to resolve billing issues.
- Perform remote reconnection/disconnection of meters which fail due to communication issues during and after business hours.
- Develop an understanding of AMI meter events and document the processes and procedures for resolving these events.
- Assist the Meter Shops and MIS with system testing related to the upgrade of the headend system, meter data management system (MDMS), or enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
- Create and deliver reports related to AMI deployment, service order performance, and other departmental reports.
- Assist with managing meter installation vendors; record damage and workmanship issues, review installation photos, verify accuracy of invoices.
- Assist with the reconciliation of vendor shipping documents to materials delivered and meter data files.
- Assists the meter shop personnel with questions related to workflow, documentation of processes, and investigation of ideas that might result in improved operating efficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education/ Training/Certifications: High School Diploma or GED required. A bachelor’s degree in a technical field, such as engineering or computer science, is preferred but not required.
Experience/Skills:
Three (3) years of working in utility operations/operations support with water, gas, or electric meter data, billing or engineering (or any combination of the aforementioned experience) are required. Data analytics training is preferred. A working knowledge of the current headend system (Command Center) and Meter Data Management System (Energy IP) is preferred. Familiarity with InService, Net/I-Dispatcher, AppSuite, Scheduler, and iVUE are preferred. Proficiency in the use of MS Office (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is preferred.
Additional Requirements
Equipment: personal computer, telephone, copier, and printers.
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions: Work is performed in a sedentary office environment requiring repetitive work at a computer keyboard.
Other Responsibilities: Collaborates with Network Administrator, Information Security Administrator, Network Technicians, developers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to establish requirements as well as resolve system issues as they occur.
Other Considerations: Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to communicate technical requirements and terminology to non-technical users required. Must also be able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment. Requires working extended hours as necessary to resolve problems including hours outside of normal business operating hours. Also, some work during weekends and holidays particularly during project implementations and system upgrades.
Other: Occasional overtime will be required.
