About the Department
Position Duties
- Assisting in scheduling and conducting preventative maintenances on City building equipment.
- Interacts with other divisions, departments, and the public.
- Ensures equipment and material are maintained and repaired when needed.
- Orders supplies and maintains inventory.
- Replaces and repairs faucets and plumbing fixtures, etc.
- Performs minor electrical work consisting of replacing bulbs, wall plugs and light switches, etc.
- Performs carpentry work such as laying new flooring, painting, minor roofing repairs, and minor structural construction.
- Perform minor HVAC repairs and maintenance.
- Performs maintenance on backup power generators.
- Maintains and conducts minor repairs on water display fountain and septic systems, as assigned.
- May perform other assignments and handle special projects as required.

Scope of Supervision
Works under general supervision of Fleet and Facilities Superintendent and Building Maintenance Technician II.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D. One (1) year of job-related experience. Technician Type Universal EPA approved Refrigeration License, preferred. Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Work Environment
Continuous outdoor and indoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying up to 100 pounds, lifting up to 100 pounds. Outside construction and machinery activities performed under normal field operations. Exposed to seasonal temperatures while operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment. Possibility of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, materials, and inclement weather while in the field.

- Skill in using computers and related software.
- Skill in planning and organizing.
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
