EMBL is Europe’s life sciences laboratory – an intergovernmental organisation with more than 110 independent research groups and service teams covering the spectrum of molecular biology. It operates across six sites in Heidelberg (headquarters), Barcelona, Cambridge, Grenoble, Hamburg and Rome. Our mission is to perform basic research in molecular biology; train scientists, students and visitors at all levels; offer vital services to scientists in the public and private sectors within the member states; develop new instruments and methods; and engage actively in technology transfer.
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a world leader in scientific research and at the forefront in the development of cutting-edge technologies and services to the scientific community. EMBL’s headquarter is located in Heidelberg, Germany. EMBL’s Science Education and Public Engagement office (SEPE) leads and coordinates EMBL’s science education programmes and public engagement efforts. Our activities are open to European school science teachers, to young people of all backgrounds aged between 10 and 19 years, and to diverse public audiences. SEPE also offers support and training to EMBL scientists who have an interest in public engagement. SEPE is part of EMBL‘s International Centre for Advanced Training (EICAT).
As part of EMBL's commitment to science education, the Laboratory runs an acclaimed teacher training programme that brings EMBL's cutting-edge research and teaching resources to schools in Europe and beyond.
