The Head Lifeguard is responsible for assisting the Director in developing, organizing and implementing high quality Lifeguards and fully staffed pools. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Strong supervisory and organizational skills a must.
- American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification, which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid/AED.
- Certification for Oxygen Administration within 30 days of employment.
- Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and establish work schedules of all lifeguards to ensure appropriate coverage for all shifts, dates and times.
- Expected to lifeguard if any shift is not covered.
- Assist in proofing the lifeguard schedule for payroll purposes.
- Provide recruitment, scheduling, coordination and onboarding for all lifeguard staff in conjunction with the Director.
- Provide quality member service by knowing members by name, displaying a pleasant and professional attitude at all times, assisting members, and referring questions or concerns outside your area of expertise to a supervisor.
- Work with supervisor in the development of Lifeguard customer service skills and job performance.
- Understand, teach and enforce aquatic and YMCA safety rules, procedures and policies.
- Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of pool logs and report needed pool maintenance.
- Respect, mentor and cooperate with all co-workers.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times according to the YMCA Code of Conduct.
- Accept constructive criticism and take corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain pool areas in regards to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
