This role will be expected to support the organisation in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data related to various social research projects. The role involves working closely with senior researchers and data professionals to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data used in studies that inform public policy and social programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in the collection and preparation of data from diverse sources, ensuring its accuracy and readiness for analysis.
- Performing data analysis using statistical software and programming languages, identifying trends and patterns that provide meaningful insights.
- Creating detailed reports and visualisations to present findings clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
- Collaborating with research teams to support the design and implementation of research methodologies.
- Maintaining high standards of quality assurance by adhering to NatCen’s protocols for data accuracy, reliability, and ethical considerations.
- Engaging in professional development to enhance analytical skills and stay current with advancements in data analysis techniques and tools.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Basic understanding of statistical software and programming languages such as R, Python, or SPSS.
- Knowledge of data collection methods and data cleaning techniques.
- Ability to perform basic data analysis and interpret results with guidance.
- Familiarity with data visualisation tools like Excel or Tableau.
- Basic understanding of database management and querying languages such as SQL.
- Awareness of data protection regulations and ethical considerations in research.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for presenting data findings to various audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to collective goals.

- A minimum of five GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4, including Mathematics and English.
- A-levels or equivalent qualifications, preferably with a focus on Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related subjects.
- No prior experience in data analysis is required, but a keen interest in developing skills in this area is essential.
- Eligibility to enrol in a Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship programme.

- Actively conform to the legislative and procedural requirements in relation to the collection, management, storage and destruction of data
