About the role

Housing enforcement work isn't for everyone. It requires tenacity, perseverance and the ability to work in sometimes challenging situations, but if you are keen to have a career that will improve the lives of potentially hundreds of people this could be the position for you. Housing Regulatory Services is seeking committed individuals to join the teams new Housing Enforcement Training Scheme. Run over two years the roles will be required to satisfactorily complete training whilst undertaking work on the Council’s new Selective Licensing Scheme. The new scheme will require landlords to license their private rented properties and ensure that minimum standards are met. These are vital roles focused on improving housing conditions and ensuring compliance with housing legislation in some of the most deprived parts of the borough.  You’ll work closely with landlords, tenants, and partner agencies to protect the health, safety, and welfare of residents. These structured development roles are ideal for people passionate about improving housing standards and making a real difference in the community.

About you
 
If you want to join a profession working in the community, where each day is different, and you need to work in line with legal requirements this scheme may be for you. 
 
Applicants should hold a degree in a relevant subject such as law, STEM, or humanities, or have a minimum of five years’ experience in a related field such as the Police, Fire Service, Building Control, Planning, Trading Standards, technical housing trades, or Housing Services.
 
Extensive experience in a customer-facing role is essential along with strong interpersonal and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with a wide range of contacts, including when dealing with complex or challenging issues. The successful candidates will be proficient in using IT software packages and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.  
 
The role requires someone who is self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and targets while maintaining high standards. 
 
You must be able to manage your caseload which will increase in complexity whilst successfully completing the training scheme and personal study.
