$63,855 to $116,632 depending upon experience

DESCRIPTION OF OUR SCHOOL: The College Bridge Academy (CBA) is a WASC-accredited charter high school with multiple campuses within the urban core of Greater Los Angeles. We target students who have dropped out or who have not been experiencing success in their larger, traditional, neighborhood high schools. We provide small learning communities of approximately 100-130 students per campus and 15-20 students per class. Each of our campuses partners with a community based nonprofit organization, such as a conservation corps, YouthBuild, or WIAO-funded program, and our students are dually enrolled as participants in these programs. This allows them to not only receive educational services from our charter school, but to also receive job training, counseling, and/or other supportive wrap-around services from our nonprofit partners, which helps meet our students’ holistic needs and gets them back on the right track. Due to the special nature of these partnerships, the California Department of Education also allows us to offer high school diploma services for students who have aged out of their traditional high schools (even up to age 23). So we have a mixture of campuses (some that serve minors and some that serve young adults). DESCRIPTION OF OUR STAFF: Our staff is composed of like-minded people, for whom reaching students who have fallen through the cracks is a personal mission and not just a job. We are dedicated, passionate, and caring. Our students sense this as they walk through the doors, and as a result, we are able to create supportive relationships and family-like environments where students can finally feel at home and get the academic and personal help that they need. DESCRIPTION OF OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE: • Experience working with at-risk youth (able to motivate, mentor, uplift) • Previous teaching experience (whether in traditional or nontraditional setting) • Passion and patience for students who’ve previously been unsuccessful in school • Excellent grasp and knowledge of subject area • Ability to craft innovative, interactive lesson plans • Ability/willingness to teach multiple preps within one subject area (note: this requires more planning, but the trade-off is much smaller class sizes) • Ability to provide scaffolding for students who are behind • Interest beyond merely teaching, to include extracurricular activities (art? sports? drama? hiking/camping? technology? what extra talents do you bring?) • Intern, preliminary, or clear credential If this description matches up with your personal mission, then we would encourage you to apply to join our team!
