Secondary School Counselor

- Permanent contract position - 187 contracted days, plus additional summer work days.
- PA certificate in School Counseling required.
- Secondary school-based experience preferred.
- Familiarity/experience with PA Act 158 requirements, high school scheduling and course progression mapping, and post-secondary planning preferred.
Provides comprehensive counseling to students and assists them in overcoming problems that impede learning, and helps them make educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for personal fulfillment. Helps students understand their abilities, aptitudes, and interests, and supports conflict resolution, coping, and resiliency strategies development with students. Reviews records of new student enrollments and develops appropriate student schedules. Works collaboratively with administrative team to develop support systems for students and families, and with school social worker and outside agencies to promote student wellbeing. Plays an integral role in annual course selection and scheduling, support of Student Assistance Programs, PA Career Education and Work Standards, and Character Education. Works in conjunction with other Student Assistance Program members to identify students’ barriers to learning, support research-based prevention programs, and foster positive connections with students, parents, and the community. Attends IEP/GIEP meetings, collaborates with casemangers, and monitors student progress. Maintains appropriate records and reports, and attends required administrative meetings as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
