Purpose: To lead, support, and grow Central Valley Ag’s sales performance across a defined region by driving alignment with CVA’s mission to “Deliver value to our members by embracing innovation, relationships, and agronomic excellence.” This role is responsible for developing and executing strategic sales plans, coaching and mentoring a high-performing sales team, and ensuring exceptional service to member-owners. The Regional Sales Manager will foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth while promoting CVA’s full portfolio of agronomic, energy, feed, and grain solutions to meet the evolving needs of producers in their territory.

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES

SALES GENERATION 60%: 

  • Grow the specific business through a defined plan to meet or exceed region/company profitability.
  • 100+ documented farm calls annually with Sales Team Member inside of region.
  • Collaborate with Field Sales Agronomists (FSA) to set individual growth targets focused on capturing new market share.    
  • Effectively coach and train Sales Team Member by utilizing the Central Valley Ag sales process in making on farm calls with targeted growers in your assigned region(s).
  • Specifically develop the sales team on an individual and team basis to create the future of growth to meet the needs of the grower tomorrow.
  • Build a working and engaging relationship with the Top 10 CVA customers with their assigned FSA.
  • Identify and build a working and engaging relationship with the Top 10 future CVA customers of tomorrow.
  • Utilize new and innovative technology to support Sales Team Member of all focused technology offered internally and externally.
  • Identify sales opportunities with existing and new customers through segmentation.
  • Coach and motivate FSA to reach their maximum sales potential in key sales areas (seed, fertilizer, chemistry and advance cropping systems).
  • Acts as a coach/mentor for individual Agronomy sales employees.   
  • Establishes ride along protocol to develop and monitor time management and prospecting practices.
  • Oversees and manage educational needs of Agronomy sales team on chemical, fertilizer, seed and ACS.
  • Coordinates proper company resources to ensure efficient and stable sales results. 
  • Work in a cross-functional team environment including FSA, Location Manager, Regional Operations Manager and others. 

 

STRATEGY EXECUTION 25%:

 

  • Develop and launch an actionable and sustainable business plan(s) built for your Regin to achieve revenue growth objectives.
  • Align with Director of Sales, Regional Operation Manager(s) and FSA’(s) on objectives and key initiatives for 1, 3, and 5 year outlook and keep this a living document.
  • Build and implement tactical action plans with your sales team with CVA’s Segmentation Strategy Program.
  • Educates sales team by coaching, mentoring, and establishing programs/seminars in the areas of new account sales and growth, sales of emerging products and multi-product sales, profitability, improved presentation strategies, competitive strategies, proper use and level of sales support, management of expenses and business/financial issues and opportunities.

 

OTHER DUTIES 15%:

  • Assist in functions associated with product orders, invoicing, inventory, standard operating procedures and forecasting. 
  • Assist in function of financing and credit.

  • Solid experience using Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI); virtual collaboration tools (Teams, Zoom).
  • Ability to manage/grow/lead in a large geography/region/area.
  • Adaptive and high understanding of Ag Technologies.
  • A high degree of technical knowledge of products/services/farming practices.
  • Understanding a high level of Ag Economic and being an expert on the farm.

 

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES 

Directly supervise 6 to 12 employees.

 

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in conjunction with division heads.  Focus on highly engaged workforce with great communication skills.

This role requires 50-60% field time, including farm visits and travel within the region, with the remainder spent in office settings or virtual meetings.

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

 

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Agronomy or Agriculture or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an agronomy sales role required. 
  • Proven history of delivery of results required.
