Description

Responsible for the purchasing of metal: including sheets, coils, bar stocks, and tubes. Participate in strategic sourcing, total acquisition cost, supplier relationship, cost and purchasing strategy management. Tracks and expedites purchase orders to ensure timely delivery to support production. 


  • Coordinate with Management, Production, Engineering, Quality and Facility groups on the procurement of different types of metal sheets, coils, bar stocks, and tubes.
  • Monitor current and incoming stock availability to determine quantities and schedules for items to be purchased.
  • Contact approved suppliers for pricing and delivery information.
  • Generate purchase orders from planned MRP demand, nested jobs and Kanban requests
  • Follow procedures to ensure that all essential information is contained in the purchase order.
  • Participate in evaluation and selection of new suppliers, development of existing suppliers, and overall supplier management
  • Monitor materials commodities markets including cost drivers, global pricing, lead-times, and capability of company suppliers that best meet expectations and objectives. Provide feedback to Estimating team.
  • Review issues with late deliveries, shortages/overages or quality problems and expedite orders through to delivery.
  • Participate in monthly supplier performance review with quality team 
  • Ensure all rejected materials are processed and dispositioned in a timely manner using DMR process.
  • Report on assigned goals: such as reduce costs, improve deliveries, and streamlined purchasing methods.
  • Coordinate deliveries with production planning team to meet shop floor production schedules
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions, coordinate activities, eliminate problems and facilitate work flow
  • Follows all safety procedures and wears safety equipment or apparel as required.
  • Performs all job functions to meet acceptable quality and performance standards.
  • Uses basic office equipment including but not limited to: copier, computer, printers.


May be required to follow other job-related instructions and duties, as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment with minimum of 3 years of experience in buying raw materials
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Experience with ERP systems; Epicor+

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Procurement Certification (APICS, CPM, CPSM)
  • Basic blueprint reading and metalworking experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to communicate with others
  • Accommodation as required for reading documents, prints, computer screens, and quality instruments

WORKING CONDITIONS: 


Typical metal manufacturing environment with exposure to powder coat paint facility. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing and extensive computer use.
