Senior Director HR
BRIDGE Housing strengthens communities by developing, owning and managing high-quality, affordable homes for working families and seniors. Our dynamic Human Resources team is responsible for more than 500 employees across multiple corporate offices and residential properties throughout the West Coast. We are looking for a strategic and versatile HR leader to join our team!
As the Sr. Director of Human Resources, you will be responsible for assisting with the oversight of employment policies and initiatives at BRIDGE Housing Corporation and BRIDGE Property Management Company. Specific areas of focus include HR team oversight, employee relations, workers’ compensation process, compliance with federal, state and city ordinances, leaves of absence, compensation administration, succession planning, payroll, and implementation of HR policies and programs.
The Sr. Director works closely with the Head of HR and the rest of the leadership team to maintain a positive environment for all staff. This position requires a high level of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality, as well as the ability to think and act strategically. This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of three days onsite in our San Francisco office.
Responsibilities
- Lead and/or assist with key HR initiatives including performance management processes and annual review cycle, annual compensation studies and development of pay grades/ranges, employee engagement, career development, change initiatives, and training
- Strategically partner with functional leaders to create and support an inclusive culture focused on open communication, accountability, diversity, and creating talent development opportunities
- Partner with functional leaders to assess capabilities across teams and strategically plan workforce needs accordingly; ensure that appropriate training opportunities are identified and provided to employees to grow personal, career, and organizational development capabilities
- Provide guidance for questions and consultation related to HR topics and issues; properly identify and effectively resolve routine and complex employee relations issues and escalate as needed
- Implement proactive processes and procedures to minimize employer risk
- Maintain and protect confidential data with utmost scrutiny, judgment, and care and ensure awareness of and compliance with employment regulations and laws
- Partner on the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and work to minimize workplace safety hazards
- Maintain awareness of applicable employment laws and ensure that company policies are complying with federal, state and city ordinances
- Oversee annual and ongoing compliance activities as it relates to governmental reporting and various plan auditing
- Collect and analyze employee feedback in various formats and recommend new or updated policies to improve employee engagement
- Coordinate annual benefits renewal process with brokerage team
- Evaluate and select external vendors to support HR processes as needed
- Mentor, coach and develop HR team members
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Human Resources, Business Administration, and/or Psychology preferred) and 10+ years of relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in an HR leadership position
- Experience with implementation of various HR policies and programs
- Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS
- Demonstrated knowledge of California employment laws and regulations
- Knowledge of employment laws in other states where BRIDGE operates (Oregon & Washington)
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships and effectively connect with others; approachable and viewed as a responsive resource for employees and leaders
- Good judgment and critical thinking skills
- Commitment to BRIDGE’s business philosophy and mission
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong proficiency in MS Office suite
- Superior organizational skills with proven ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines
- Valid CA driver’s license
- Ability to work in San Francisco located office at least 3 days per week and travel when needed to our site locations across the west coast; may include overnight travel
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
