Position: Systems Engineering Intern 

Location: San Diego, CA  

Telework: Hybrid Remote/Onsite 

Expected Work Schedule: 20 hrs/week (potential for extension depending on work availability or full-time hire post-graduation) 

Expected Travel: None 

Compensation: $30/hour

Position Overview: 

XSITE is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Engineering Intern to join our San Diego team part-time. This position is ideal for a college student going into their junior year pursuing a degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, or related fields, with an interest in both software engineering and systems engineering.  

As a growing defense contractor, XSITE offers interns the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects supporting national security. Interns will gain practical experience, build professional networks, and may be considered for full-time employment upon graduation or part-time work extension, contingent upon work availability. This paid internship opportunity will provide hands-on experience contributing to real-world defense projects. 

Job Description: 

• Participate in systems engineering processes, including requirements identification, decomposition, traceability, and documentation.
• Assist the Systems and Software Engineering teams in evaluating software source code, algorithms, and capabilities, against system requirements and specifications.
• Collaborate with Systems and Software Engineers on testing, verification, and validation activities.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of technical documents, including system requirement specifications.
• Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and correspondence related to Systems Engineering projects.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support XSITE's business operations & processes.

Qualifications: 

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Understanding of basic engineering principles.
• Adaptability and willingness to learn.
• Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Able to obtain a Secret level, U.S. Security Clearance (post-employment)

Preferred Experience: 

• Knowledge of system modeling tools (e.g., Sparx Enterprise Architect, Cameo Systems Modeler) or interest in learning Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) are a plus.
• Understanding of DoD projects, especially in satellite communications, or interest in defense-related work are a plus.
• Prior experience in a related field is a plus.
• Existing U.S. Security Clearance (Secret or higher)
