This Skills Bootcamp is designed for aspiring developers, technical artists, and 3D creatives who want to take the next step towards a career using Unreal Engine, with a focus on lighting, cinematic rendering, and VFX.
Through structured projects, technical mentoring, and studio-style collaboration, you’ll deepen your understanding of Unreal Engine and build the skills needed to work in games, virtual production, immersive media, and other real-time industries.
You’ll work with experienced tutors, a career coach, and industry contributors to deliver work to a professional brief, showcase your strengths, and prepare for the job market with career support and feedback.
What will you learn?
Core Focus Areas:
- Lighting Techniques – craft cinematic, mood-driven scenes and explore advanced lighting setups including ray tracing
- Rendering & Sequencing – optimise performance, design camera systems, and create high-quality cinematic outputs
- Visual Effects (VFX) – develop interactive particle systems, shaders, and Niagara-based effects using Blueprints
- Production Workflows – manage assets, understand real-time pipelines, and use collaborative tools in a simulated studio setting
- Industry Insight – gain exposure to professional case studies and best practices across real-time industries
- Career Support – build your CV and showreel, receive feedback from industry professionals, and develop your interview skills

Eligibility
You need to be aged 19+ and live in, or intend to work in, the West of England Combined Authority area, which includes Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol, and South Gloucestershire.
