About the Team:

Lambeth Legal Services is an in-house practice, committed to providing a high quality, effective and value for money legal service to the Council's support officers and members, to ensure that the Council exercises its powers and duties lawfully.

Legal Services is committed to the Law Society's Practice Management Standard (Lexcel).

You will be joining a specialist child litigation team which offers expert legal advice and support to the Council in all aspects of child protection and welfare law. 

The team prides itself on being able to provide cost effective high quality, accurate, strategic, solutions focused legal advice and representation to the Council, upholding our values of equity, kindness, accountability and ambition.

The Role:

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to play a vital role in supporting our team of expert lawyers to deliver high-quality advice to our clients within Child Protection. 

The successful candidate will provide pro-active support to the team, demonstrate initiative and an ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines. They will achieve and maintain good working relationships with clients, colleagues, Local Authority employees and external practitioners and partners. 

The successful candidate will have the ability to work as part of a team and and will have a can do client focussed approach. They will be committed to further professional development and have a willingness to learn.  

Education should include either a Law degree, GDL or CILEX Part 1. Prior relevant legal experience is required (which can include work undertaken on a voluntary basis) as well as knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (training will be provided on our own in-house systems).

This is a hybrid role.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To assist in providing an efficient and effective legal service to the Council by providing paralegal support to the lawyers in a professional, effective and meaningful way.

  • To conduct routine legal work to deadlines under supervision of the allocated lawyer and Senior Lawyer.

  • Preparation of Court bundles.

  • Liaise effectively with colleagues and clients, and external practitioners and partners and maintain good working relationships.

  • To provide support to the Principal and Senior Lawyers in the administration of team procedures, team meetings and implementing team Lexcel procedures

  • To carry out the duties of the post in a pro-active and enabling manner and within the policy objectives of the Council. 

  • Maintain SRA standards and ethics at all times.
